Hey everyone, new to post in the community but not new to the community.
I was just curious, I have noticed quite a distinct difference, almost an unfair situation with regional community’s in Australia and approved wayfarer spots that are actual pokestops in these communities compared to the big cities, I will explain.
Recently the community I live in which is classed as a regional area has had several new wayspots approved, but only 1 has appeared in game. Now I know there is the whole s2 situation, but it appears it doesn’t seem to apply to big cities such as Sydney. I feel this is an unfair situation as there are a lot of regional communities are trying to build up Pokémon go communities locally, but with the lack of poke stops and gyms it makes it very difficult.
It would be great if Niantic would consider applying the same rules and guidelines they use in big cities to regional communities and give them a fair go, as these communities have limited eligible places where they are able to submit for approval often within the same grid spot to build their pokestops and gyms for their community.
I would love to get other members thoughts on this, positive and negative.
Thanks for taking the time to read and for any feedback back
S2 cell rules have never been acknowledged by Niantic, fyi. The community has observed these rules they have discovered to apply equally everywhere. What you may be seeing in older, bigger cities is from when location edits did not reset game status, so extra game locations used to be able to be squeezed into the cells in a way that can’t be used now. Also, bigger cities are likely to have more sponsored locations, and have more game locations that way.

Would you like to leave a location to have us show you the S2 cells there?

Thank you for your reply, yes of course. So my location is Empire Bay NSW Australia, I would love to see the s2 locations. Very interesting that Niantic are trying out adding more way spots, I will definitely read the article. It sounds like something that would be very beneficial on the NSW central coast. Thank you again for your reply I really appreciate it.
So this is where my pin landed when I searched on that location. These outlines are the L14 size cells that determine getting gyms. It looks like you are 1 away from getting a gym in all those locations with a 1 in them.
The smaller wayspots with generic photos are imports added only to be used as powerspots, so they do not factor into the pokestop and gym counts at all.
With the zoom on the map, I have to get closer in to show you the size of the L17 cells that determine if something is eligible to be a pokestop.
I do see that this will be a difficult place to find anything to submit. It looks like a lot of single family private residential property (SFPRP) which is ineligible. If you have something specific you would like me to show you, I will be happy to.
Thank you this is fabulous, yes it is a difficult area, as there isn’t a lot around except for private residence. Hopefully the trial niantic are doing maybe be considered for Australia, as it would be very beneficial. Thank you again this is very helpful.
In addition to what cyndie mentioned, on the topic of cities seemingly having more stops/gyms per cell, there is potential for some of the stops to be community campsite stops added by community ambassadors. Most cities have a community ambassador by now, and most big cities have several or many, so for popular areas where they host their meetups they may setup a campsite there.
These will show up in PGO, but not on the Wayfarer map, I believe. So, for example, a Campsite would not be available to Pikmin Bloom the next time it does a map update, which makes sense.
