What odd things have you discovered that became WayPoints

I found the remains of a rather old cable punt system under a bridge. Fortunately heritage listed

In the photo you can see new bridge. Overhead. Then the old bridge as pillars in background. If you look closely you can see there are two lines running up the sand. These are the old stone remnants of where the punt was pulled up to the shore.

What is a punt? I guess a pulley based system to move a vessel across water otherwise called a cable ferry. Punt comes from a roman word meaning flat bottomed boat.

Discovering odd things can be fun. How did I discover it. I was looking for a cafe, it was pouring with rain and I sheltered under the bridge while waiting for the rain to stop - my interest in this random pile led me to nominate it as a POI.

And to think I had travelled over the new bridge countless times unaware of all the history of what was below.

Unfortunately, the only odd things I have found are things I say, “A little odd that this hasn’t been nominated yet…”

This is in Cherokee, North Carolina. So, I think it’s technically “foreign soil.” I had no cell service and was trying to get as many photos as possible in a short amount of time. I never did find out why this place has old bikes on the roof, but it’s definitely a landmark.

The description is the best part in my opinion. That is amazing even if the nomation itself is not something you see everyday😅

The very first thing I found for a submission, which I asked someone else to submit as I was too new to the idea, was this boundary marker. Not that remarkable, except it was for an area of Worcestershire that was owned by Clerkenwell. It was a surviving marker for a parcel of land bequeathed to the poor of the parish of Clerkenwell in London, over 100 miles away.
