It’s sad that we submit a place in the county that would make a great spot, but it gets rejected with really no clear reason. It’s just the same old generic reason given and now no chance to appeal. But yet you will have places all over each other in the city that are made into a stop or gym. Some don’t even give any information about why it was made or any data given for example of what made it a great place or is safe to even play or stop for a spin. But again it’s in the city limits or at a college but yet those of us having to play the game in the county or outside the city limits are restricted to only churches. When we try to submit a store or place of business we get rejected. But yet a gas station, car wash or restaurant will be given approval in the city??
I hear you and I can imagine that this is frustrating for rural players. My advice is to submit supplemental information with links to validating information whenever possible. While I personally do research on any submission I’m not sure about, the burden of proof is ultimately on the submitter.
One thing I noticed as a reviewer is that sometimes, rural nominations are difficult to verify because street view doesn’t extend to certain areas, and satellite view shows nothing but trees. As someone who lives in a city, I’m jealous of all the nature and trees… but if I’m reviewing a submission in a place I’m not familiar with, it means I have no idea what’s under those trees. I do try to validate with public records, etc. but it’s not always doable. In these cases, sometimes I skip so that reviewers who are more knowledgable about the area can review instead.

Would you like to post some screenshots of your submissions so we can give feedback or post your general location so we can help with finding suitable spots?
Welcome to the forum, and I hope we can help!
These do not meet criteria anywhere. You may be seeing data imports, not submitted wayspots.
You get 2 appeals, each on a 15 day counter before you can use it again. If you don’t have the appeal button, then you just have to wait until you get one back.
If you post screenshots of a rejected nomination that you are considering appealing, we can help advise you on whether it is worth using an appeal on. When we give Nomination Support we ask for the following information you can find on your contributions page:
Please provide:
- A screenshot of your nomination, including rejection reasons if it has already been rejected
- Include the title, description, both photos, and supplemental information
- Copy and paste the title, description and supplemental so others can translate them
- If you feel comfortable please share the location, as it is helpful (i.e. hidden duplicates), but you can mask it if you wish.
No trees just a wide open place with plenty of parking and a highly traveled road that gives you a prefect view of the store, the location and just the generic same old rejection from someone that doesn’t seem to care. It’s just frustrating to spend the time trying to make spots outside the city to give those us more places to play the game without having to drive 15 to 20 miles for an event that’s only going to last an hour.
Hello and Welcome,
The type of store is really important here, this is why you have been asked to show your nomination.
Remember the big 3 with criteria…
A great place to socialise.
A great place to exercise.
A great place to explore.
It can not be just that these things can happen here but that the place actually encourage it.
Lot’s of store will be rejected as “Generic Business” no matter where you are.
If it’s just a store where you buy groceries then it doesn’t meet criteria. A store that holds regular events can be but it is down to the submitter to supply evidence.
I guess those places were given in the earlier days of Pokemon Go before they doubled down on the locations. As far as two appeals, it’s hard to get an appeal, if the appeal button is not showing on the screen.

HazeNDaBlue56:
a gas station, car wash
But a bush made to look a jeep is okay???
As a regular suggestion on these forums, ignore what you have seen on the map.
Lets concentrate on what you are submitting and what advice we can give to give it a chance.
Unfortunately, that advice may be that it just doesn’t meet any criteria.
If you give a general location we could also take a look and advise what may be suitable to nominate.
I hear you. I can only talk from my experience. I have posted and successfully nominated many rural nominations.
Many people here have suggested posting stuff here. So why not do that and share some of the nominations you have not had accepted in the nominations forum and ask if people can help
Also if you want to .And as @SlimboyFat71 asked do suggest the area you are in. A few people are a totally whizz at suggesting things and a lot of us enjoy helping!!
Rejections are annoying. But I know I share a lot here and learnt heaps on how to improve. And I became more selective in what I could suggest. And put way more effort into ensuring title, description, supporting and photos . But it took the guidance here of many to help me get there.
But it is very hard to suggest help when we don’t know where you are or what the failed nominations look like. So yeah, could you share please ?
@HazeNDaBlue56 We wanna help!!!
It has plenty of room for exercise
It is a place where you can order food and socialize
A place visited by fishermen on the way to the lake
It has a number of tables inside to enjoy your food
All of this was stated in the write up and an established business for over 35 years.
I will have a friend try it again but it’s just heart breaking to spend all this time outside the city trying to make places and get rejected because of people from other countries that don’t have a clue about the location or the place being nominated. But taking notes on how to improve the nomination next time.
Just having plenty of space is not enough, if it was a Gym, dance studio etc this would “encourage exercise”
Just being a place to order food is not eligible. How would people socialise?
Again, does not make it eligible.
This sounds eligible, if this set out as a Cafe then this is how you should nominate it.
Adds nothing. McDonalds started in the 1940s but most would be rejected.
Nothing stopping you trying again if you really believe it meets criteria.
The majority of reviewers will be from your local area (in Wayfarer this could be a up to a fair distance but from people that will understand the context).
We are here to try and help but you are not giving us much to go on.
Suggestions:
A: Post a copy of your nomination here, include photos, Title, Description, Supplemental Info. Location from the email you received when you 1st nominated would also be helpful.
You will receive advice, you just have to be aware that this advice could be that it does not meet criteria.
B: State you general location, people will scour the maps and give suggestions on places that will be easier accepts.
Good Luck.
Hello and welcome @HazeNDaBlue56
I am going to move this to nomination support as that seems the most appropriate place to continue the conversation and for fellow wayfinders to help and support.
It is frustrating when you get rejections - it has happened to us all so we know the feeling all too well.
The key though is to learn from those rejections and to do better submissions. And this means focussing on what you are doing and not falling into the easy trap of what you see around you. You can’t control or influence others but you can control and improve what you do.
By posting one or two of your full nominations we can start to help unpick this.
A store that is a social place with tables etc sounds like it could be a good candidate.
It might be that some of these rejections are being done by the auto process.
Please do post so we can assist.
Thanks, I have been reading the post and it seems they have a list of things to choose from but once you do that and research the place and use that as a benefit to get the place accepted they still reject it on the appeal. Will continue trying to get more places submitted outside the city limits with hopes that the people rejecting these places have also read the list of approved places .
Are you meaning the Tags that you select when nominating through the Pokemon Go app?
If so, these are not a list of eligible locations, they even include the definite Rejects such as “Schools”.
The tags where just placed for the old Niantic to gather data, they have no bearing on the nomination. The new web based “Submit” doesn’t even ask for them (something we hope PoGo copies soon).
The only way we can advise is if you show us the nomination, Photos, Title, Description, Supplement and location.
We will be happy to advise.
Good Luck.
As an edge-of-suburbs player who grew up very rural…
Check your local businesses for artwork. Submit as the artwork, not as the business. For example, a grocery store is not normally eligible, but my most recent approval? The mural above the liquor section in a grocery store. (Important note, make sure the artwork is not mass produced or “advertising”. This is a mural of a farmhouse.)
Certain types of businesses are themselves eligible, notably martial arts studios and fitness gyms.
Also see if there are government facilities other than schools. Post offices, libraries, and parks are generally good. And while fire stations and police/sheriff stations are not themselves eligible (out of concern for interference), these locations often, but not always, have memorial plaques or public art on property that does qualify on its own. For instance, one of my local fire stations has a 9/11 themed memorial bench in front of it (where there is a bus stop on the street), and a local police station has a large memorial plaque next to the front door about the officer the building is named after (who was the first officer stationed there to be killed in line of duty).
Also, I know these are not found in many rural areas… but if there are any multi-family residential complexes (the “private property” rule is supposed to apply only to single family residential), check their common areas. A site map, play structure, designated dog park, or athletic facility (swimming pool, basketball or tennis court) will work, and complex name signs sometimes get approved (I have found it usually depends on if is all-text or if it contains artwork).
Also note that power spots in Pokemon Go are often based on a mass import of business addresses. These did not go through the normal approval process, and in fact are often in ineligible locations (due to home businesses). These may be removed if reported. (While it’s POSSIBLE for a power spot to be based off an approved wayspot, this can only happen when that wayspot can’t populate in game as a pokestop due to the proximity rules and another existing pokestop or gym). So these are generally not useful examples.
