Worth an Appeal?

hey everyone.

Emily rejected this nomination

But to be fair, I was kinda expecting a rejection because there’s a wayspot in the same L17 cell (it doesn’t show up in PoGO), but given that I had a recent nomination go through and show up in-game about a day after the acceptance, I figured I’d take my chances.

Is it worth using an appeal to get this one accepted as is? or should I restructure the nomination first?

I wouldn’t spend an appeal on that. Flags are borderline submissions.

what do you mean by “borderline”?

Hi and welcome!

Just to clarify a few points:

  1. The eligibility (and subsequently the acceptability) of a POI isn’t influenced at all by what is approved nearby or “in the cell”. You could have 10 items on the same small patch that could all be eligible as long as they are clearly distinct. Pokémon GO is only one game, and the Wayfarer system doesn’t consider its inclusion rules for acceptance.
  2. We can’t say in full confidence if it’s worth appealing without seeing your full nomination - that includes all text fields and ideally location.
  3. These appear to be flags with a business logo. Nominations have to be a great place to explore, exercise or socialize in order to be eligible, and in this case I would doubt they are.

I am sure people here would be happy to support you with looking for eligible things in the area.

They will sometimes be accepted and sometimes won’t. They fall in-between “definitely not eligible” and “nearly always eligible”. They are in the borders

i’ll admit, this was one of my lazier nominations in terms of the write-up, i wonder if that was a contributing factor

Flags themselves are usually considered mass-produced objects. The ones that are accepted usually have some other significance to them, such as a memorial dedication. This looks like the entrance to business that would not be a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social.

oh okay, thanks for clarifying

I see.

To be honest, the entrance to this business is nowhere near where I proposed the wayspot be & I figured the big patch of grass would help in the supplemental picture - it’s big enough for 2 SUVs to park on it :joy:

I have a better understanding of why Emily said “No” to this now though, thank you

I am confused then. Please be aware that pinning away from the point of interest can be considered abuse by Niantic.

It never helps  I’ve made lazy submissions and had them rejected (before ML existed), so when I wondered if I should have made a better attempt, I realised that I actually didn’t care that much about that wayspot so I would be better off spending time on something I wanted.

Oh no, it might look like I pinned away but it’s actually exactly right where the flagpoles are installed inside the premises (I’ve been inside before when it was a private security HQ)

i just misunderstood what you said. no worries on the pin.

The laziness was more so because I forgot and had already walked passed it while doing a route (it was also about to rain) :joy: so in my haste I doubled back, rushed it and quickly typed something, all while forgetting that I could’ve just tapped “Upload Later”.

Then I forgot about it and only realized when I checked back a few days later, but by that time it was already in voting

all good, no worries

One warning about Upload Later - the 24 hour grace period (during which ML evaluates) before it can go into voting starts from when you press Upload Later, not from when you actually upload later.

This means that when you do upload, submissions can go straight into voting without a chance to be put on hold. I haven’t had this happen, because I hover at my wayfarer account and keep refreshing to put things on hold as they appear, but it is worth being aware of this.
