Appeal - POI Removal - Lion of Giovanni Caboto (Halifax, Nova Scotia)

Hello,

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Lion of Giovanni Caboto
  • Location (lat/lon): (approx.) 44.64650 / -63.56934
  • City: Halifax
  • Country: Canada
  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

I made two visits to ensure I did my due diligence, since this is a very busy area that’s seen a lot of changes with renovations: a new expanded wharf to the east and an all-year social on the west side.

I have investigated the existing photos and the last photo was updated 6 years ago and 11 years before that. I can see an existing POI in the background as a point of reference. It may have existed on the side of the Salt Yard Social.

The POI was seen when facing north as I can see another POI (HMCS Sackville) in the background.

From the last photo on file with the waypoint, there was a “performance spot” decal on the ground of the wharf. From my current photos about to share, that is also no longer there. I used a free GPS camera app and hope this is satisfactory support.

This location is at the Salt Yard in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The satellite map is out of date, as you can see when I go to “uploads” under “settings” when playing Pokemon Go. We had a renovation of the waterfront a few years ago to expand the east side of the wharf. From my supporting photos you can see an expanded wharf, which occurred between the last photo update of the waypoint six years ago and the present.

Here are some photos to gather a bit of context of the area with the expanded wharf built here (note I have marked up the photos to remove people’s faces, as it is a busy location where people socialize in order to take my photos).

From the above, there is a permanent refurbished shipping container against the side of the wharf. I am doubtful this is behind it now. I believe the POI was removed when they renovated the wharf that included adding the social adjacent to the container. I cannot find it in any direction. I think it existed facing North where you can see the adjacent HMCS Sackville in the background.

I am confident from checking on two occasions it is no longer existing. I utilized GPS time-stamped photos before finishing my appeal as I wanted to be sure I didn’t miss anything and that the POI was indeed permanently removed. It is a busy area that I did my best to get photographs to minimize the number of people in them to support my appeal.

Additional Resources for my supporting argument

In 2021, the waterfront was expanded and here are some online local articles, with the one below that has an aerial shot of the difference. I hope this is also sufficient support for my appeal.

Thanks for the appeal, @WillZedd. After reviewing the additional evidence provided, we’ve decided to retire the Wayspot in question.
