Footbridge Discussion

I don’t usually… oh wait… not those types of trolls…
:man_facepalming:

Have you appealed any of those rejects or did you always resubmit?

I don’t know why we can have such a difficult time with footbridges in the U.K. Some on trails and Footpaths don’t look visually spectacular, but are crucial for following the route.
We also are lucky to have a number of very old bridges that are pedestrian only and are really interesting.

Getting a good photograph of a bridge is tricky because it can be hard to get a good angle.

I have been stung by nettles so many times

I hadnt tried appealing them, no. Theyre pretty old submissions and I guess I just gave up, but maybe I need to try again now

With the green bridge, I ended up submitting the trail marker instead of the bridge, which I think is boring but it worked. I love trail markers for what they enable us to do in locations where there’s less other options, and for improving the riverside near here, but given a choice between a bridge and a trail marker Id prefer to submit the bridge, especially when the bridge is part of the trail

Yes I have clambered down some banks to get a good shot and the realised the headlines of
“Daft old biddy gets covered in mud whilst trying to take a good photo :woman_facepalming:
May yet happen :joy:

I havent yet fallen over or slipped and ended up in the water, so Im doing well :muscle:

I do wonder sometimes. Picking my way down a steep muddy bank in old trainers missing all the tread and getting my ankles stung to bits, but YAY this is the good angle

Should I get a Reporters outfit ready along with Pen, Pad and Camera? Just in case?

I just recently nominated a footbridge that is actually essential to traversing a ravine in a park, and it’s so hard to get a picture from a good angle that I’m pretty positive it will be rejected. It can be SO hard to take a good photo for these.

If anyone has any good photo tips for footbridges specifically, they would be very welcome I’m sure!

I wonder if using a drone would help produce a decent photo of a footbridge…

I’m sure a drone would……but it’s not something us mere mortals have :sunglasses:

It’s also tricky to get the background right. So many wooden bridges surrounded by trees meld into the background so they don’t stand out. On those occasions I tend to go for the along the bridge angle crouching down ( my knees object)

Time to find someone who likes rock climbing/scrambling/ropes and send them off with a camera and instructions

More seriously, hopefully its accepted anyway and then people can possibly improve the picture over time if they manage

More generally…
I find different times of the year help ie when trees drop leaves and vegetation dies back, and more water is present it can sometimes make the bridge stand out more.

Some watercourses run dry in summer and then reviewers dont always see the reason for the bridge and reject it. So winter and spring seem better times in the UK for pictures with nice water volume, and more access to the banks to get a nice angle - sometimes in summer you cant get close enough on the sides to get a good picture

I tend to find walking further back from the bridge and moving as close in to the bank as I can tends to offer a better view than closer by, and I also try different sides and cross over sometimes to see if it looks nicer from the opposite direction

is this a footbridge?

Id say its an advert for one
Looks incredible though

Can you show us a photo of what you are working with? Hard to make a suggestion without seeing it? This is a pretty standardly accepted footbridge photo around here

Only for Wayfarer Ambassador’s… everyone else absolutely not!

Not permanent.

I n looking through my submissions I realise I haven’t submitted that many footbridges.

I will need to do something about that.

I’m hoping there isn’t a Global Footbridge Submission Challenge coming up…

Was this what @CrownFeather meant by a suspension bridge?

The footbridge I was talking about above finally got approved today! I guess the picture wasn’t as bad as I feared.
