Wayspot Submission for Park Rules and Hours
Katy TX
APPEAL NOT ACCEPTED
2024-10-07
Appeal Notes
This sign is located by the picnic and bbq pit that rest along the hiking and biking trails and the pathway to see the rest of Exploration Park. It âs iconic architecture and vibrant use of colors makes learning about the park rules easy on the eyes. Itâs not a temporary sign as itâs metal (like the others seen around the park), and is bolted to the cement. This wayspot is the first thing visitors see when accessing the beautiful park. Thank you for your time and consideration!
Niantic Note
Thanks for the appeal, Explorer! The object in question does not meet the Wayfarer criteria as it is a normal park rules sign which has no significance. We recommend you review the Wayspot Criteria before submitting your next Wayspot contribution: Wayfarer â Niantic Technical Support and Help Center

Hello and welcome,
I do have to agree that park rules signs do not meet criteria. I donât see how they are great places to be social, great places to exercise, and/or great places to explore. The park itself meets all 3 of those criteria, but a rules sign is pretty indistinct and found at most parks, so I donât find it to meet any criteria.

Hello and Welcome @McKenzie84
Itâs not very obvious when you are new to this forum where the best place is to post your questions. I am moving this to Nomination Support as that is the best place to discuss what might be the issues with this nomination and help to find a way forward.
Iâd agree that something presented as a âPark Rules Signâ wouldnât be considered distinct. However, the design of the sign is interesting (why does it look like that? is it the only one?) and sometimes itâs possible to spin a description (PoGo joke) differently to emphasise another aspect of the wayspot⊠so in this case I notice that the words âHAVE FUN!â feature prominently, and that might be a good thing to lead on.

My first question is - are you aware of the how wayspots are selected for use I the various games?
I ask that because the vast majority of wayfinders nominate because they would like the wayspot to appear in a game.
For Ingress it is a simple 20m radius between wayspots.
For Pokémon Go it is 1 wayspot in a mapping software tool referred to as S2 cells. This article explains it
https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
To put it simply the world is divided into boxes and itâs one per box.
This is what your park looks like in terms of wayspots.
This is what it looks like in Ingress with the grid of boxes showing.
Not everything will have been selected for either game.
You mentioned your submission is at the BBQ/ picnic area and I hope I have picked out the correct one.

You can actually see a sign in the photo beside the picnic table. If that is your sign then it wonât appear in a game.
If that is not your sign but yours is near by there will be a high risk that people will assume it is.
Is this correct interpretation of the situation?
