How do you add supporting documents to a nomination?

Hello,

I am extremely new to wayfarer and I was wondering if you could help me.

I am looking to make my first nomination for a waypoint and cannot see from the forum, nor from Pokémon go how to upload additional photos as supporting information for my submission. These relate to maps and media articles, rather than the wider physical context of the waypoint.

I have seen from some of the reviews I have processed that this can be done, but I’m uncertain how.

I could potentially link the media article rather than attach a screenshot, but this would not work as well for the maps I wish to attach. I humbly request your combined knowledge and experience!

Many thanks!

Hi Toaster1891,

You’re already in the Wayfarer forum which is a good start if you have a more complex nomination.

When you are submitting a wayspot, you submit TWO photos - one of the proposed wayspot itself and then a supporting photo which should show the wayspot in context so the location can be verified.

For example, this is one of my accepted waypots:

The supporting photo helps to place it in context, so it can be found more easily on StreetView or satellite view.

You can either take a photo in-app, or use an existing photo that you have taken yourself. For the supporting photo, you can use markup or make a collage if it’s more appropriate. If the wayspot is hard to see in the supporting photo, you can circle it. If the light is poor then you can also apply something like an HDR filter on your phone, and then submit it as an existing photo also.

Generally though, you are best off just showing the wayspot in the surrounding area unless there’s a special reason to do more.

Once you have given the title and description for the wayspot, you can add supporting text. This can be whatever you want, and include links to websites (but do not do that in the description just in " Supplemental Information".

Adding detailed text can be tricky in the field, so here’s a trick that many forum users have - set the wayspot to “Upload Later” and then when you are ready, upload it to Wayfarer. Then, once they are uploaded login to Wayfarer and select your new spots under “Contribution” and then place them on HOLD. This allows you to work on your text at your leisure, make a more accurate or detailed description and add any URLs into the supporting text. Then, when it’s all done you can release the hold and send it for approval.

Your submission should be in the queue for a few hours at least, when it’s in the queue you can put it on hold. I wouldn’t wait too long though, I usually wait for the email from Wayfarer acknowledging the submission and then place them all on hold as soon as I get that.

Thanks shritwod,

That’s a really helpful, detailed reply.

Could I just ask - Is the supplemental information field text only, or can you add further images here too?

Thanks a lot for your help, I’m looking forward to contributing to the community as I find my way around and get to know more about the technical aspects

You can put a link in the supporting info, to, say, the web page about the thing you’re submitting. Like the website for a park, historical marker database, newspaper article, or artist. Hopefully that site will have pictures. (Don’t put links in the Description.)

Don’t link something personal that could dox yourself. (It could also be seen as trying to influence reviewers, which is abuse.)
But If your nomination is declined, you can appeal it using links to your personal pictures, because only one Wayfarer staff member will see it.

Welcome to Wayfarer!

Unfortunately your other media is going to have to be in the form of links added to the supporting information field. It’s not ideal for all types of media and you’re going to have a lot of reviewers not follow up on them, but the system at this stage is that there is one supporting picture only. What matters is that you found and provided all the information you could provide to make your case, it will help in case you need to e.g. demonstrate in the future that a community rejection was incorrect. Seasoned reviewers are very used to seeing URLs with something like “trail map here”, though.

Thanks @MargariteDVille and @Xenopus. I think that my submission (in all it’s nuanced glory) will probably be rejected, but at least with all the advice I have, I can give it my best shot. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, eh?
