Incorrect Appeal Rejection (Appeal) for Victorian Water Hydrant

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Victorian Public Water Hydrant
  • Location (lat/lon): 51.852112,-1.433194
  • City: Stonesfield, Witney
  • Country: UK
  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):
  • Additional Information (if any):

I don’t really understand, as the rejection reasoning is ignoring the factual information I’ve put in the submission and the appeal. As far as I’ve been able to find out there were around 5 or 6 of these ever made, in a foundry in Oldbury, West Midlands, for this specific village. I wouldn’t claim to be the most well traveled person in the UK, but I have literally never seen another one of these exact pumps outside of this village. I’ve also never even come across a tiny village that made its own water works around this time (although I’m sure there must be others).

Even IF the person who looked at the appeal lives in a place where 130 year old cast iron water hydrants are very common, the core principle is that submissions are reviewed in a local context. They are vanishingly rare in this part of England, it’s factually incorrect to say they are common. The research and local culturally history (see link for one source) I have added to the submission about the background and historic event of them being opened clearly demonstrates the local significance, so it’s also incorrect to say they have no significance.

I know effort and observation in submitting unique things isn’t actually relevant to whether a nomination should be accepted, but I firmly believe this isn’t just an eligible nomination, but a great example of what we should be doing as Wayfarers. I hope I’m correct!

I have a second auto-rejection, for the other one I found in the village which I have not yet appealed through Wayfarer. So if, as I believe, this is a great wayspot nomination can the second one be looked at as well please?
