Non-sense wayspot rejection because it is a "normal" bench?

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Grote zitbank, De Trog

  • Location (lat/lon): 51,07136° N, 3,02301°O

  • City: Ichtegem

  • Country: Belgium

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email *:

  • Additional Information (if any): So my nomination got rejected because first of all they say it is a “normal” bench?? As you can see in de picture’s below this is not a normal bench(??) At least I haven’t seen such bench before or anywhere. The bench itself is at least 2 meters high. On one of the picture my e-step is near it and it is super little. I have never even seen a bench like this in the wild so I do not understand at all why this is rejected. This nomation is in a newly created park close to my home.

Can someone please help me what to do?

That looks like a beautiful scenic viewpoint.

City folk just don’t know nuthin’ 'bout our purrdy rural viewpoint benches. I had to appeal a similar rejection just yesterday.

So, that’s an unfair and inaccurate assumption - “city folk just don’t know nuthin’ 'bout our purdy viewpoint benches.” I agree the view seems nice, but that isn’t what the OP nominated from the title. The description isn’t included, but the bench, while bigger than usual, appears to be just an oddly sized wooden bench. If the OP would want to use it as the anchor for a view point, then the title and description would need to reflect that so reviewers know what you are nominating.

Hello,

I do agree that the title isn’t the best, as it describes the bench, not the view, which is most likely why it was rejected for inaccurate information. Yes, benches at scenic viewpoints and lookouts are eligible, and there is clarification on them:

You want to make sure you are nominating the viewpoint, not solely the bench. A title that translates to “large sofa, the trough” in English doesn’t describe the viewpoint and what people may see in the area. The description in English is “Nature point/park De Trog, with bench. Built by the Nature and Forest Agency,” so if it is a park, I would also try to focus on that.

I would also suggest better photos, similar to the ones in the seating benches criteria. A photo from behind the bench showing the view is going to be better than a photo of the front of the bench for the main photo.

Yeah, I agree. Will submit a new one but as a viewpoint. Thanks for the help!!

My comment was tongue in cheek, which I hoped the stereotypical accent would help to convey, and it was to expand on the previous comment.

However, not everyone sees it as such, which is why it’s best to be careful with calling anyone something based on where they live.

I myself live in a city currently, but grew up on a rural area, so I can understand why finding good places to nominate in rural areas can be hard. I go back to my rural hometown often, and I’m always surprised to find new things to nominate. When I was last there last month, I found 8 new places to nominate, and all 8 have been accepted.

BTW, we have a great thread on Wayfaring in rural areas, and I have found it quite handy for my rural nominations:
