I agree, that would be the sensible conclusion. We really need to hear it officially from Niantic and have it all directly accessible when submitting and reviewing so that everyone is on the same page and isn’t speculating and confused. Especially when they are sending threatening emails to people that are doing their best to work with the vague information supplied.
I want to know the official answer about swimming pools.
public swimming pool in public park accept?
swimming pool at apartment ???
another thing to consider. swimming pools are closed in winters.
I think the portal/pokestops have to be accessible all year around.
this is what they said here.
My feeling is that they made this new clarification and did not mention the weird exception for apartment pools, so there no longer is one. Pools in public parks are great places to be social and exercise. Pools continue to exist in the winter, so they are acceptable Wayspots. Per the guidelines, the pin for the pool should not be in the water, but should be at the entrance.
place it at the entrance or where there is a visible sign or placemarker.

This isn’t true. For example, you can have wayspots in locations like theme parks, which aren’t always open.
All pools are valid except if they are at single familiar private properties or at K12 places.
I believe the use of “community” in the pool criteria is used to mean any type of community that is eligible, and apartments/subdivisions are communities, albeit smaller ones. Many other places were eligible at apartments/subdivisions, such as playgrounds, dog parks, picnic areas, etc, but there was still a debate about pools. Most made good arguments that the pools in these areas should be eligible, since they were open to those that lived in the community, and their guests, and promote exercise and socializing.
Yes, you are absolutely correct with your statements ^^
I wish niantic would make an official statement on the matter… All community pools get rejected in my area and it would take years worth of appeals to try and get them all in… if there was an official statement proving for certain pools in apartment complexes are eligible a link to that statement could be provided in the supporting info.
This is the public statement about pool eligibility.
It covers apartment complexes as others have described. A communal pool in an apartment complex is the same as one in a gated community of homes. It’s a shared resource.
Read on Reddit today about a apartment complex pool rejection recently that was challenged and Niantic accepted it. They are good to go. I will resume voting favorably for them and will begin nominating all the ones I come across. If you get rejected…appeal for the approval.
I always reject them before because I read old information.
now, I will accept them as long as they are not at schools or private residential.
I feel bad…
Don’t feel bad. The November 2020 AMA had said to reject them, and this clarification with the change is very new. Be proud of yourself for being an informed Wayfarer - and tell all your friends about this update!
But… wouldn’t you want to grab all of the nominations for yourself first? :->
I have over 1000 accepted Wayspots. Someone else can submit them.
Totally agree. I really don’t care who nominates. I mean, what does all the nominations get you, bragging rights maybe? I’ll pass on that.
You do get a “portals discovered” count and AP in Ingress, so was a fair question.
It was (mostly) a joke (actually aimed at @GlowMouse103 , though that didn’t work out as planned).
I just find it interesting that there are so many who want to be first to nominate and first to get theirs accepted. Someone recently wondered why a place they nominated 14 days ago was rejected by the community because someone else nominated it after them and that person’s nomination was accepted by ML within 24 hours.
Maybe it’s the antithesis of that?
If I go out of my way to find, find it about then submit something there’s more enjoyment in the process and seeing it come to fruition rather than just the end result.
