I personally would have accepted the majority from the replies of this thread, I personally did not think that the building itself should be nominated in most cases (but happy to change that stance) as this is just the place you go for the education.
I have had many nominations that are “quality” that I have accepted knowing that they wont be a stop / gym because the cell is already taken by the building.
I don’t agree with this argument because you could say that about any building.
A factory is important to some who works there.
A car showroom is important to someone who is looking to buy a car…
A factory may not be a safe place for pedestrians to access
A car showroom is for looking at cars and doing business with the dealership, which may make it a generic business (This doesn’t apply to all car showrooms, as some are more like museums for classic cars that may or may not be for sale)
Universities are different, as they are institutions for learning and education. Places that are educational, with the exception of anything falling under K-12 schools, are worth exploring. They may also be worth exploring to the broader community when different events are held there, like Homecomings.
but are safe for the people who are meant to be there so that is not in itself against criteria.
I would say that the education you are getting matches the explore criteria but some lessons could be done remotely whilst sat in your kitchen so (in some cases) the building just happens to be where it happens.
Highlighted “may” and this would still not be the primary reason for the building.
I am playing “Devil’s Advocate” to a degree, just trying to show that some of the arguments stated here can fall over quite easily.
Yeah, of course online students may not get use of a university building, but those aren’t the students these buildings are important to. It’s the on-campus/hybrid students and faculty that they are important to.
Using “may” has helped me not get in trouble for making possible assumptions, as have “could.” There are many greys areas with the criteria, and this is just my opinion.
I really do not like being attacked by others when they think I’m putting out misinformation or trying to mislead others when that has never ever been my thing.
This also isn’t worth arguing about. You can make up your mind and come to a decision about these buildings. I may have to mute this thread, as I’ve pretty much said all I need to say.
I don’t think I have ever accused you of “Attacks” just a difference of opinion. I am also happy to leave it here.
I did ask for opinions and they have been given, definitely food for thought. Thanks.
What about the canteen, what about the supervisor that does no work just sits in his office.
As I have stated before I will often make comments that are “exaggerated” just to make a point that sometimes things are not always black or white and someone’s opinion on one object can easily be twisted and used against the opinion.
I definitely don’t believe that a factory or car showroom meets criteria.
But whatabout the named showroom in an event center that hosts car expos and next year’s models?
I can’t recall if it was said, but if it was then it always bears repeating:
Many criteria statements are generalizations and it always depends on the actual subject and the presentation of the nomination. I hope you have gotten more perspective. Maybe it shifts your reviewing a little or maybe it’ll reinforce that the submitter should try harder next time.
I’ve been a student, I spent a decade working in Higher Education - so I know what goes on in these spaces and some of them are just not distinct IMO. Nobody is saying that a University shouldn’t have wayspots - indeed they’re probably going to have a lot in some cases but they shouldn’t get special treatment.
Talking about that and might not related to the topic but…I got research hallway approved in my University.
it is a 4 way hallway that showcase the research of technology in this university. The research itself is temporary and might be replaced, but the hallway itself that showcase the research center is permenant and it is a great place to explore
