When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:
- Wayspot Title: Ron’s (filtered word blocked)
- Location (lat/lon): 41.367219, -72.218884
- City: East Lyme
- Country: United States
- Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):
- Additional Information (if any):
The original report was created under the “abuse” category as it was unclear which category to select (further research suggests possible flagging under “Sensitive location”?), which is likely the reason for the rejection. If needed, I can resubmit using the correct flag.
However, this is an adult-oriented location (firearms shop), both in the name – Ron’s (filtered word blocked) – and cover photo (See image 2). Additional Google Maps imagery to confirm that it’s an adult-oriented store (See image 3). From a community perspective, regardless of political affiliation, this should not be a pokestop – not only because it’s an adult-oriented store, but also because it’s so close to an elementary school (See image 4).

Thanks for the appeal, @NorsetechActual. I see that this Wayspot has already been retired. You should be able to see these changes reflected soon.
Just to note as you mention “so close to an elementary school”…
The rule for schools (and for single family residential) extends to property line only, not proximity. Nominations that are merely close to schools are perfectly fine.
I have personally seen at least three (not nominated by me) painted utility box murals that are on the sidewalk in front of schools, that are active pokestops. In my area, too, about a third of city parks are in school zones, as is our local zoo!
I have also personally submitted a dozen pokestops (that were approved) “in school zones”, consisting of five located on the property of churches that are next door to a school, two murals in a restaurant that is across the street from a school, another mural and an antique neon sign in a strip center next to a school, swimming pools in two apartment complexes that are next door to or across from schools (one of each), and a painting in the lobby of a medical/dental office building that is next to a school. I have two more such nominations pending (swimming pool and picnic area in the apartment complex right next to the two murals restaurant mentioned earlier).
Totally valid and understandable point. My focus was more on the context – it was already inappropriate as an “adult-oriented” location, my goal was to add more reasoning behind the appeal.
But truly thank you for providing information about the school designation. I didn’t know that and that’ll be handy in the future!
