Wayspot Title: Grafite Boca - Na rua e na chuva!
Location (lat/lon): -22.889796, -43.273010
City: Rio de Janeiro
Country: Brazil
Additional Information (if any): Mass deletion of valid wayspots in the area, the graffiti is still there (photo below)
This photo was taken on a Sunday, every Sunday the Basílio de Brito street closes for cars and between 6am and 3pm happens an open market of fresh produce, fruits and sweets (in Brazil known as “feira livre”)
The graffiti itself has not been vandalized, those black lines around it are indicative of movement and the words are being spoken by the mouth.
Unfortunately spray paint vandalism in walls and gates in awfully common around here…
What is “individual disc gold holes”? English is not my main language
Hello @Exumai! I’m looking the graffiti and the place where it is located it and I personally don’t see any problem to be honest. It seems is located in a building, not a SFPRP, and I wouldn’t call that as vandalism as it seems to have a little bit of effort and details from the artist. Looking at Google Maps it was created between 2019 and 2022, I don’t know if it can be considered temporary in your area or not. I live in a place where graffitis are not usually getting removed from real life so I can understand a little bit your situation. Related to your question about “individual disc gold holes”, is a common thing in some countries but I don’t think is common in Brazil, so you don’t need to worry about it.
@LCDAngel99 I appreciate your help but in this case I wouldn’t call that as vandalized wayspot. In some countries around Latin America and some in Europe is usually to see this type of wayspots, so I wouldn’t make a statement about something that is not pretty clear due to some social/cultural context.
I think (my opinion) they are trying to distinguish between murals, which are sanctioned art, and “graffiti” which is typically not sanctioned by the property owner and thus “vandalism”. There can be sanctioned street art that looks like “graffiti” but I would think the submitter would need to demonstrate that in some way. It seems Niantic is removing what appears to be unsanctioned graffiti.
i had wondered if niantic was treating graffiti the same way as disc golf holes on another post and removing graffiti tags. but i didn’t comment on this post because that looks like more than just a tag and i have no opinion or advice for this one.
@MegaTrainerRed If i’m not mistaken it was made mid 2021… I’d say that it is until now permanent. There is a poem by Vinícius de Morais about Love that ends like this:
“Be not immortal, since it is flame
But be infinite while it lasts.”
So, I follow this rule, a graffiti is permanent while it lasts…
@Leedle95 At least in Brazil there are “4 levels”:
Enormous breathtaking and expensive murals made by very famous artists funded by organizations or the government:
@cyndiepooh Thanks, I’ve never heard of this sport. It appears to have 3 official fields in 2 states in Brazil.
I’d fear A LOT to be playing anything in the phone with flying objects being trow about
I agree, that’s really the point, whether or not the property owner has sanctioned/approved an artistic mural, or if someone placed it there without permission.
