Appeal decision second look

Hi Guys! I’d like a second look at an appeal decision that was rejected please.

This is the nomination in question, and is a gate/entrance to a green space. I’ve had recent success with these and wondered why this is different/has been rejected so would love a second look. If you need any further info please let me know.

Thank you.

Hello @mchrism
An open space can be considered and the entrance point is usually the best place to represent the facility.
So that sounds ok.
You say locally known as Spider Rec. We do like to give local places names that then get lost in the mists of time:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:. However has this open space got a formal name? It may be that there is a mismatch of information. What is it called on the councils list of maintained spaces?

I can see evidence in the form of upright posts that there might have been a sign a long time ago. And there is another sign there? What does that one cover - would it indicate that this is a formal open space?
Both of these point towards this being more than a field.

Have you appealed already? If so, then it would be good to attach the text from the appeal rejection email.

From the aerial images, it is definitely a managed space and looks deserving of a wayspot.

That missing sign has been missing from at least 2009, but they would have held a name once. It’s a shame it’s not been reinstated in that time even though the space is being looked after.

Hi apologies I thought I’d put it in my original post.

Here it is copied verbatim on their decision -

Thanks for the appeal, Wayfinder! The nomination in question does not meet the Wayfarer criteria as it’s just an open green space. If this assessment is not accurate, please resubmit the nomination with a signboard. We recommend you review the Wayspot Criteria and Forum Criteria Discussions Library sections before submitting your next Wayspot contribution: Wayfarer — Niantic Technical Support and Help Center and Forum Criteria Discussions Library — Wayfarer Help Center

Yeah to answer yours and Ellis questions there used to be a play area when I went to school there but was removed for whatever reason and you’re right about the sign
There is unfortunately not much else I can submit, and as I mentioned previously with my success of other green space entrances nearby I was sure this would get through/be accepted on appeal.

You’ve chosen the best spot to photo as the gate works as an anchor for the space.

That’s the second time the appeal rejection for an open space has included “please resubmit with a signboard”, which Scopely have said on multiple occasions is not necessary (even though it is helpful).

I think they mean it would be helpful here, but the phrasing is not good.

This is definitely not junk so it is worth trying again (and again).

Is there any chance that white sign on the very long pole says anything remotely helpful? It’s not clear on streetview so I can’t read it.

Hi Eli

So yes it is an open green space and was going to get new signage a few years ago but it fell through due to funding. I can find references dating back to 2012 of it being called spider rec and I knew it as that when I went to school nearby. Used to do some cross country and it was always known as ‘and now you’re going across spider rec’ etc.

Unfortunately not, it’s a no ball games sign.

I had a feeling it would be. It does indeed look like a terrible place to play ball games
