Appeal of Wayspot removals

A group of three wayspots have just been removed and they do not seem to fit any of the portal/wayspot removal reasons.

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

1

  • Wayspot Title: Old Tollgate
  • Location (lat/lon): Princes Highway, Urrbrae SA 5064 Australia (approx lat/lon in Google Maps link)
  • City: Urrbrae
  • Country: Australia

2

  • Wayspot Title: Lady Barr Smith
  • Location (lat/lon): 20 Mount Barker Rd, Glen Osmond SA 5064, Australia (approx lat/lon in Google Maps link)
  • City: Glen Osmond
  • Country: Australia

3

  • Wayspot Title: Victoria Saving South Australia

  • Location (lat/lon): 20 Mount Barker Rd, Glen Osmond SA 5064, Australia (approx lat/lon in Google Maps link)

  • City: Glen Osmond

  • Country: Australia

  • Additional Information (if any):

  • As none of the other wayspot removal criteria are even vaguely applicable, I assume they were removed due to “no safe pedestrian access”. While it would be possible to make it look that way (they are are in the middle of a highway), there is safe pedestrian access as can be seen by the Google maps street view links. They wayspots are also in range from the foot/bike path on the side of the highway. Two of them are even in range from the public car park in the background of the second Google maps street view link.

Path past plaques (wayspots #2 and #3)

Foot/Bike Path (same location, facing opposite way)

You need to be able to physically walk up to them and touch them. For things like this, you’d need a visible safe crossing point to the median for it to be deemed safe, and I’m not seeing any markings on the road or any form of traffic lights or other signals that could be used to facilitate a safe crossing.

Hello @BobTheFurry

To add to what @hankwolfman has already mentioned, there are multiple Niantic games. Currently there is Ingress, Pokemon Go, Pikmin Bloom, Peridot, and Monster Hunter Now. Each of these games (and future games) use the database of map locations we create as wayspots. But these games all interact with the wayspots differently. So while Pokemon Go has a fairly large play radius, Ingress expects certain interactions right on the wayspot.

This is why Niantic is very careful about safe pedestrian access all the way up to a wayspot.

Theres a footpath/bike path and a crossthrough point just there. How is there no pedestrian access?

(And no, thats not for a car, its a 90 degree angle, a car could never use it)
