Shopping Plazas are indeed eligible locations, but that just means they MAY be acceptable Wayspots. Nominators should prove, in their nomination, that the nominated Plaza is indeed a social/exploration destination. Not all Shopping Plazas or Strp Malls are great places to explore or be social, and those that are need really good descriptions and supporting info to show that they qualify.
Here is the current criteria for shopping plazas:
Being that this plaza has many chain businesses, I can see why it was rejected for being a generic business, but that should not have been the case. I might of checked IDK for Appropriate if I had received this nomination because of all the chain businesses.
You may want to improve on the description, as it doesn’t make the nomination interesting, as well as provide a better supporting photo, showing that it’s in a safe area for pedestrians to access.
Hey there @LCDAngel99 - I’m here to help you! Feel free to use this as a template to get this approved. Feel free to change any or all of the wording.
"Get ready for your favorite weekend shopping trip, you will be one of many walking around this plaza. Whether it’s raining or whether it’s sunny, you can get all the exercise you need here while being social with your friends.
Start off by doing some shopping at Hy-Vee, be a kind soul and leave a donation at the Salvation Army. Go and get your nails done at Katie’s beauty and finish it off with some pizza. Feel free to stop by Hobby Lobby for something to do on a cold winter’s day. Let this shopping plaza sign be the beacon of light you need to guide you."

Not everyone knows the recent criteria clarification and still believe these are generic signs
But remember not all of these may qualify (if there’s no safe access, a medical plaza , all generic stores (McDs , a Burger King together)
Because of the subjection , many do still get rejected by the community (if yours was rejected by Wayfarer - it would say “Wayfarer criteria”)
I would actually appeal this and give a good reason than nominate again
Being this was from 2 months ago, it’s possible they did appeal, or resubmitted it. OP posted on July 29th.
I would hesitate to use the description Jamal posted. By mentioning all the shops in the description, you set up a system that requires an edit every time one of the shops changes. Edits like that are going to be a pain to push through the system.
That doesn’t sound like a problem with the description.
An easy fix is to leave the description bland, just “strīp mall”, and add all the fancy details to the appeal text.
I don’t think you have to leave the description “bland” to leave out the specific store names. I can usually describe the kind of activities and opportunities available at the destination without mentioning specific stores for the most part.
As an actual local to this region I would vehemently disagree with any attempt at making Hyvee sound interesting.
But that’s just my opinion.
It may be less about the fact that all of the shops are generic chains, and more about the fact that none of the shops are places where people really go to socialize or explore. I would say it’s more about more about the nature of the shops in the plaza.
I’ve seen some great shopping plazas where there are, nice restaurants, popular sports bars, really cute, unique shops, etc. Those are a lot more likely to be approved.
Again, why is a 2 month old thread with a solution being talked about again? The OP hasn’t said anything since they first posted.
@LCDAngel99 Do you still need assistance with this?
