Why was this rejected?

What Wayfarer criteria does this fail at?
Wayfarer criteria is the worst excuse for why a nomination isn’t accepted because it tells you nothing.

Generic business.

From the given info, this nomination focuses on the generic sign rather than the strip mall itself. The strip mall itself may be eligible however,

For business nominations, in general, refer to this clarification that highlights the burden of proof upon the submitter.

Hi, one of my favorites that I often submit is Shopping Street. NIanticTintino said the following about shopping malls and plazas.

Commercial complexes where shopping can be enjoyed show as the best places to socialize. However, the next sentence is important and corms.

We must provide textual evidence of what the commercial complex is like and demonstrate that you will have a good time shopping with family, friends, or loved ones. Describe in your description the type of business of the stores that are open and the attractiveness of the shared spaces in the facility.

Which, IMO, implies that if there is already a wayspot in the strip mall, then they don’t need signs.

(I had actually looked for that post, but wasn’t thinking “Plaza” so missed it.)

Also, if you look closely at the main image, you can see the license plates of the vehicles in the background. If you enlarge the original image, you may be able to read the license plate numbers. You recommend that you re-photograph the image.

Sorry, I hit the wrong reply button. You are indeed correct. If the plaza is already a Wayspot, then we have no choice but to make it a duplicate, even if we specify the sign.

I would say “if anything else in the plaza” not just the plaza itself.

That sort of scenario is one that is a case of individual consideration and judgement.

Clocks are often acceptable, concentrate on that perhaps rather than the sign. Also, show the proposed wayspot in the supporting photo so people can see it in context.

Which category do you think it qualified under?

This qualifies under the shopping plaza clarification. I have submitted a few of these where I live, and only 1 I have had to appeal. A few others here have also posted the criteria clarification on shopping plazas, so you may want to check that out; it can also be found in the Criteria Clarification Collection.

Not all places in the world have the same type of shopping plaza signs, but they are common in the US and Canada. Here are some examples of the ones that I’ve gotten approved:
