Automated rejection on neighborhood signs

Hi! I’m an avid Wayfarer user, and have been left a little confused on what is going on with some wayspots I submitted yesterday. These neighborhood signs that I’ve submitted got automated rejections, but are unique signs that the City of Arvada has been putting up. I’m kind of confused as to why they were rejected, and now have one of these signs “Under Review”. Any advice on how to improve these so I can resubmit them would be much appreciated!

Title: Homestead Neighborhood Sign
Description: A sign commemorating Homestead neighborhood in Arvada.

I’ve uploaded the other neighborhood signs in the series for reference, as well as a screenshot of the rejections + the “Under Review” submission.

Edit: also forgot to mention that these signs have been put up within the last few months, and do not appear on Google Maps yet. But I am more than willing to provide proof they are real and permanent signs!

Neighbourhood sign is usually hard to accept unless it has some artistic or historical value.

Anyway under niantic review is actually good if you said it was rejected by AI.

AI rejection means no human review it yet(neither staff nor other wayfarer)

But “under review by Niantic” means niantic staff is reviewing it. Niantic review is something common that happen occasionally (probably random check by staff) Hopefully you got answer soon.

When you nominate you should mention all this and provide latest proof. Failure to do so, might cause reviewer to think that you are submitting fake wayspot and trigger report.

The Homestead signs differ from the other approved signs in that they lack the colour and detail that the others have and for that reason ML may have assumed that the black writing on a white background meant that it was a mass produced highway sign. It will be interesting to see what the Niantic Team make of it.

After the submission goes through review, and it does hypothetically end up accepted, how would I go about submitting the others without triggering another automated rejection? Or in this case, would a Wayfarer employee have to review all via appeals?

Noone but staff know how AI rejection work because it will be abused. Usually i just take multiple foto for each nomination. When i return home , i submit everything. If it got AI rejection , i use new foto (old submitted foto will be AI rejected) and resubmit. If all fail, then i appeal. You have 2 appeals, each with 15days cooldown. So i prefer to resubmit with appeal as last resort.

I may need to appeal all of these if the under review one is accepted. As Liverlouike15 said, it could be the black writing on white background that triggered the rejection. Another waypoint was also flagged (a shopping center entrance sign) that was also black writing on white background. The other submissions are past automated review so far.

Anyway, neighborhood signs are usually a hard sell. Some reviewers love them, so some might pass, but others may reject them. Some signs are more distinct (historical or artistic) than others, so if you get a rejection, ask yourself whether the sign is distinct enough to be a Wayspot or not.

Make sure to put all this in supporting information

If the Niantic team accept the nomination, then it could make the other signs harder to be accepted, as they all look the same and have the same title and therefore could be regarded as duplicates, especially if located close to each other. Is there anything distinguishable about the locations where they have been placed? If you walked between them, would it take you around most of that neighbourhood and past any other points of interest?

Hm?? I didnt saw this.@zambiefighter do you have multiple neighbourhood sign for the same neighbourhood?

These signs are on the outer edges of the neighborhood, and are placed in high foot traffic areas. If you were to walk in-between them, you would have to walk through the major park with the same name as the neighborhood. The signs are also thankfully spaced apart enough that you they most definitely won’t be misconstrued as duplicates. I also post the sign with the surrounding areas as my supporting information to show they’re along public sidewalks and publicly accessible, they’re in different locations, and the photo helps to support these claims.

Yes, each neighborhood in Arvada that has these neighborhood signs have anywhere from 4 to 7 signs placed along the entry streets to the neighborhoods. These signs are typically spread 2 to 4 blocks away from one another as to cover the entire neighborhoods, and these aren’t small neighborhoods either.

I didn’t have issues with the other neighborhood signs, but these ones being not as colorful are definitely where I might fall short of them becoming waypoints. I’ll try to vary them when I resubmit them, I sadly thought having them be uniform with each other would help them seem more official as wayspots ;-;

If you end up resubmitting these, one change to consider making is to give them a unique title by adding the street name that these are on if each one is different or North / South / East / West.

I’ll definitely vary them up if I resubmit them. I also hope to hear from a Wayfarer Ambassador on this thread for their input on the matter and if they’re worth resubmitting.

In that case, I don’t think you can submit them. Seven is too many, in my opinion. It makes them feel like mass-produced objects and no longer distinct. You might be able to get one approved, but the rest could be rejected as duplicates. (If I were reviewing and knew there were many of these signs, I would reject them during review.)

I do not understand how these signs meet any criteria. How are these great for exercise, exploration, or being social? Is the Homestead Neighborhood significant in any way? Your nomination does not say that it is.
