Bridges Vs Foot Bridges

Foot bridges have a high chance of being an acceptable waypoint, but what about bridges that are meant for pedestrians and vehicles?

Are those acceptable waypoint nominations?
A bridge connecting a community together to allow further exploration?

No

Hey @KingCharlie626 & good to communicate with royalty!

My view is that there is no definite answer and that it depends on the individual submissions and the bridges nominated. A defined, fenced section of an overall multi purpose bridge could, maybe be considered. There is always gray grey consideration.

I have seen them in game.

I saw one as a showcase on the wayfarer site in the last few weeks.

I know that many say that “in game already” is not a good argument. I know that many say the showcase is machine picked and often not right.

But … there they are in all their glory & much time has elapsed. Changes could have been made if the company so desired.

Cheers & good luck with your gaming.

Hi,
A standard bridge is just part of a normal road, and as such it is just infrastructure.
Along side a road there is normally a pavement for pedestrians. That is not a trail and it too is normal infrastructure. So just because the pavement alongside a road continues across a bridge does make that special.
It is possible that a bridge might be eligible because it has architectural merit or specific historic context. There may be a foundation stone or plaque. it might be listed as historic merit on a national database so you can refer to that.

In that many, Niantic is included as saying the showcase is not to be seen as proof of eligibility, for what its worth.

Have to agree with Eli here. Most bridges are just infrastructure, unless they have something else that makes them eligible.

The downtown area of where I live has 3 bridges going over the river, but only 1 has a Wayspot. That 1 is a memorial to veterans, and has a pavilion open to pedestrians that honors the different military branches with monuments and obelisks. The pavilion also has a nice lookout of the river and 2 of the parks downtown to the south.

The other 2 bridges downtown are just to get you from one side of the river to the other, whether via vehicle, on foot, bike, etc. Neither are part of any trail, and the architecture is nothing special, other than 1 being designed to stay open during flooding, but that’s part of infrastructure to me.

Saw this yesterday whilst trying to access one of the local green space (which the Council decided to close off). I was excited for about 10 or 20 minutes… then realised it can’t be safe… and I couldn’t think what criteria it met. Then I cried.

“Balance Beam”

Exercise equipment in the park.

Encourages exercise by testing balance and coordination. Encourages socialising when people fall off and have to ask for help from random dog walkers

Looks fun. I’d definitely try it.
Encourages exploration too - exploring the limits of balance and bravery  or not, if youre some sort of gymnast/ dont care about getting wet and muddy

Probably not a great idea. I’m not even convinced it’s a good idea…
