Description:
It has been noticed that some contributions from 2019 now have broken images on the Contribution Management page. This has been narrowed down to images which were submitted via the Ingress Prime Beta, which gained access to Wayspot submissions in April 2019. The broken images span Ingress Prime Beta submissions April 2019 to July 2019.
I reviewed my Contributions list, and there are 27 accepted Wayspots and 5 rejected Wayspots from April-July 2019 with broken images, e.g. below.
I have checked the Wayfarer map and these images appear to not be broken on the Wayfarer Map. I have not been able to check in game, so it may be limited to just the Contributions Management page.
Analysis / Cause:
The initial version of Ingress Prime Beta had some oddities associated with Wayspot submissions. One was that there were two different image urls:
- One which appeared on your Contributions List and the acceptance email
- A different image URL which was attached to the portal submission in Ingress / on IITC. It appears this different image URL is used for the Wayfarer Map, and hopefully PGO as well.
The image URL which appeared on your contributions list and acceptance email was a bit odd. e.g. you could not append “=s0” to the end of the url in order to get the full resolution image. It now appears that the weird image URLs which were attached to your Contributions list and emails are now not working at all.
Impact:
Given that the issue appears to be only affecting Contribution Management at this stage, and not Wayfarer Map, it may be that this is is not a high priority issue to resolve. However, I am sharing on the forums so that other users who encounter this issue are able to find more information.
If it were possible for the devs to run a script, however, that switches the broken image URL on our Contributions page to be instead the working image URL that is used on the Wayfarer Map, that would be lovely so we don’t have contribution pages with broken images.
