Contributions Self Review

New to the community, I recently submitted a Wayspot title and description edit request. I was pleasantly surprised when it showed up on my review feed. I was not sure what to do, and I just accepted both of the changes, approving my own edit.

In the near future, for such cases, what should be the appropriate course of action if this happens again? Is “Skip” the way to go for such cases?

Hello and welcome,

Not the first time this has happened, as it happens often. it’s been reported as a bug a few times, but we’ve never really gotten a clear answer if it’s a bug, if we as the submitter are allowed to vote on our own edits, etc.

Basically, if you don’t feel comfortable voting on the edits you’re submitted, you are welcome to skip them. Right now, we can vote on our own edits, so it’s really up to you.

Thanks for the prompt response. I guess I will skip such reviews moving forward, as it feels weird to approve my own request in a community-driven appraisal system.

I disagree with this. If you know it was a valid edit, I believe that you should vote accordingly.

Now, don’t take their words out of context here. They did note that it feels weird to them to vote on their own edits, and this is how I feel and some others do as well. If they want to skip, they are allowed to, nothing against that.

And, of course, being I know there are those are are for and against voting on their own edits, I made sure to include this:

If we want to have another discussion about whether or not we should be able to vote on our own edits, that should be a separate discussion. The OP got their answer.

The OP wanted advice on

and I gave my opinion on what the appropriate course is. I think valid edits should be voted on appropriately, and that there is no need to skip them.

I did not.

Welcome to the community @DoctorPinocchio!

Hey @DTrain2002 and @cyndiepooh,

I don’t think anyone was taking the OP’s statement out of context. You both simply shared your opinions and advice, which is totally fine.

The important thing is to keep the environment welcoming for new members. Unless one of the responses clearly breaks any rules or guidelines, challenging each other’s advice in the OP’s thread might unintentionally make things feel less friendly.

I’m sharing this here (rather than a PM) because I hope it can serve as a gentle reminder to all regulars to keep our discussions constructive and supportive, especially when new folks are involved.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

Can you confirm that it’s acceptable to vote (presumably in favor) for your own edits when they come up for review?

My personal opinion is that they intend for me to vote on anything they put before me. If they don’t want me to vote on it, they need to fix the system to not show it to me.

I think that is the answer.

If it is a bug then fix it.

If not then Vote on it.
