I was having a chat with some other Ambassadors about the profile page on the Wayfarer site, when something of interest to me came up. You see, for 6 years now I’ve always accessed the profile by clicking the avatar at the top right of the screen.
I legitimately had never noticed there’s a giant big ‘Profile’ button on the left between Contributions and Help. I don’t think I have ever clicked it in my life.
But another Ambassador was the opposite and had no idea you could click the avatar.
This made me curious how others get to their profile, and whether I’m the only one with selective blindness to menu options.
- I usually click ‘Profile’ on the left-hand menu, but I was aware you can click the avatar instead.
- I usually click the avatar at the top-right of screen, but I was aware you can click Profile in the menu instead.
- I am flexible whether I click ‘Profile’ in the left-hand menu or avatar at top right.
Wait, you can get to profile by clicking the avatar?!- Wait, there’s a left-hand menu item for ‘Profile’?!
I was well aware that there’s a menu option for profile, but I don’t think I’ve ever used it, given that you need to open the menu and then press the option, whereas pressing your avatar achieves the same thing with less taps haha

I used to use the avatar. Then it stopped working for me so I switched to the menu…..and was unaware that it worked again.
So do I go back to my old ways
I’ll temper my response thus: if I’m looking at my profile, I’m usually doing so on my desktop to update my stats on the WDD, so I use the lefthand menu, because it’s not difficult, and I’m about to use the lefthand menu again to get to the reviews or my contribs.

Also why would I open a menu and tap when I can just tap? I wonder if using wayfarer on mobile vs PC makes a difference? I’m on mobile
I use iPad. And it took me a long time to realise you could close the menu 
And even now I don’t bother to use it as it all it would mean is more empty space on right as I review 
Ohhhh so the menu is permanently visible to some people? That explains more… I have to click to open it.
If there is a way to close it on desktop, I have never seen it.
At this point, I wouldn’t close it even if I could, because it messes me up whenever things don’t look like I expect them to.
We are all learning lots from this
