I discussed this with another user a while ago and didn’t think to also add it here to get others views.
On the old Wayfarer forums, users could customise their profiles slightly with what were called “monsters”. Limited selection and worse designs than monsters that would be rejected by Jade Cocoon’s designers (in my view anyways).
Then we migrated here, and everyone (save for Ambassadors) just gets a default letter or number from their username.
The other forums that moved from Vanilla to Discourse, Pikmin Bloom, Ingress and Monster Hunter Now do allow selection of some of their IP to have as icons.
Whilst I get that Wayfarer itself doesn’t have as wide of a selection and we are unlikely to be able to choose Ingress or Pokémon GO images, maybe something could be used like Doty?
Campfire is Niantic’s own thing and they have Doty & Flare as characters.
Or maybe someone else can suggest what they’d rather have as avatars here?

On the scaniverse forum you can upload your own choice of picture.
Does it actually allow you to? I saw MH Now one said it did but when you tapped it you couldn’t.
I haven’t spent much time on the Scaniverse one but makes sense if it’ll be a few developers etc.
My wayfarer profile has a picture I selected. Not really sure why I can’t use it here.
You don’t know how badly I dislike my sepia toned letter…
At least let me choose the color I like!

I kid you not, but I check this page from time to time, just to see if we can make any change.
Being this is a Discourse-run forum, you’d think they could offer something different. They can restrict who can send DMs, and seems a little unfair that Scaniverse gets to choose profile pics, but we don’t.
