Incorrectly rejected appeal

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Picnic Table at Cascade de Faymont

  • Location (lat/lon): 47.95231833347289, 6.5177089825447965 (estimated)

  • City: Le Val-d’Ajol

  • Country: France

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any): This wayspot is a permanent seating area at the waterfall of Faymont. It was nominated during my holiday so resubmitting is not an option. I was under the assumption these picnic seats were decent wayspots. Maybe the employee who rejected this appeal made a mistake since it doesnt make sense to reject it for the exploration criterium.

Another case of Niantic not knowing their own criteria.

They can be. Not everything that can be eligible is always accepted. Picnic tables tend to meet the criterion of a great place to socialize. That said, a single picnic table located deep in the woods is not likely to be viewed by many as a place people intentionally go to socialize as they would in a park, for example. A picnic table like the one you submitted could be viewed as just a resting spot for hikers.

While the criteria of being a place to exercise, explore or socialize can be straightforward, whether or not a place is a great, or even a good, place for those things is dependent upon reviewers. It’s up to the submitter to make a convincing argument for reviewers. I personally would have a hard time accepting a single, isolated picnic table deep in the woods. But maybe you could convince me otherwise (were I a reviewer on this).

As it’s an appeal decision of a nomination I am moving this to General Discussion.

Could you post the supplementary and location so we can see if there is any issue.

Picnic table areas should be eligible under socialisation.
Sorry this should be a reply to the original, poster.

This picnic table is located close to the waterfall lookout platform and parking area. So it is not a random table situated deep in the woods. There are also two hiking trails that start nearby, so I feel like this area is meant as a social/meeting place.

The original supporting photo won’t add much, this was the only way I could take a picture without making an awkward photo of people visiting the waterfall.

The available photosphere at the waterfalls should be more helpful: https://maps.app.goo.gl/bAH6WvzpWSAw44Cg6

It’s just useful to see what originally the reviewers saw.
Both photos look fine.

What was your description and supplementary?

Did you include that information about the trail heads etc?
It does look to me as though this is a meeting point where you might socialise.

I would have accepted this - it sounds like a great place to meet and socialise while exploring the falls and trails in the area

I think this appeal was an incorrect decision, unless there’s something else we cant see from the information shared (in which case it was an incorrect reason given at the very least)

Honestly, my supplemental info wasn’t that great. I just said it was a great place to hang out and socialize. Since it was a holiday submission I only added a short bit of info and I forgot to put the submission on hold so ML rejected it before I could edit it.

I just got a notification that this wayspot was accepted, so thanks to the team for revisiting it!
