Is Wayfarer worth it?

Seems like applying for waypoints is a bit of long-shot… Especially something that most likely wont get approved until the unforseen future :expressionless_face: and even if it does finally make it through the vigourous and painstaking review process, it may still not appear in-game anyway… :exploding_head:

Honestly… What a load of bull.

Seems like a waste of time to actively involve the community and then continually deny waypoints or make the process so painstakingly long.

From what ive seen, its so bad people constantly write forums about waypoint confusion.

“Lets create a service that barely works”

Dumb app.

Open to having my opinion changed, but I doubt it will be lol :person_shrugging:

Welcome to the forum anyway.

You are seeing posts from disgruntled folks who haven’t or don’t want to learn the rules. Many of us enjoy this process, many even more than Pokemon Go.

If someone is just looking for a couch Pokestop to spin, they probably don’t think it works very well. Ask someone like @TrungLatias who has transformed the game for his country about whether Wayfarer works, for example.

Hey @ItsKoizG ,

Welcome to Wayfarer.

I have looked into your rejected submissions. I strongly recommend that you review Wayfarer criteria (eligibility criteria, rejection criteria, acceptance criteria and criteria clarifications.

You can also share some of your nominations to seek guidance from the community.

All the best!

I dont think thats quite the case cyndiepooh… When the majority speaks, it is what it is :person_shrugging:

Hey hello and glad to see you in the forum!

If possible, can you share some of your nomination so we can see and giving some of our opinion in here.

That would be a great first step!

ah, you just want to argue. i am out.

I have spun existing pokestops that resemble the exact same criteria, for stops i have tried to add. Not trying to argue, but the inconsistency is unreal.

okeh

Just for you to know, existing Pokestop/Wayspot should not be used for Wayfarer crtieria. They can be slip up as a mistake by the community.

I recommend reading Aaron linking post, and if possible, sharing your nomination in here. Otherwise we are unable to help you. :heart_exclamation:

Here’s the thing, there are a lot of things that are currently on the map, or that make it onto the map that are not necessarily eligible, and don’t meet the requirements for removal.

It is very frustrating. Your best bet is to just ignore what’s on the map when trying to determine if something is eligible, and focus on the criteria.

Welcome to the forum @ItsKoizG

You often hear the voices who post and complain about everything, because it’s human nature to want to get our frustrations off our chests and sound off. That doesn’t mean that they are a majority though. They’re just being vocal.

A lot of us here have been using wayfarer for several years and some of us will have had thousands of wayspots accepted and added into various Niantic games (I’m only at around a couple of hundred myself, but I still keep submitting when I find cool things that aren’t in the database). People are much less likely to sound off about something when it’s working well for them (though I do feel we should be able to be proud of our contributions).

Thank you, this is helpful

Criteria have changed over time. Something that might have been eligible earlier may not be eligible today. Moreover, if you believe any of the existing Wayspots violate our policies, you can report them and our team will review the report.

Further to what @NianticAaron has said, if you’ve got nominations that you feel are eligible you can post the nominations here with your pictures, title, and descriptions and the community here will be more than happy to help you out with trying to get them approved or some clarification on their eligibility.

Also, if you are ok sharing your general vicinity (don’t doxx yourself) there are folks here who would be happy to scope out your area to help with suggestions on things that might be eligible.

Wayfarer can be frustrating at times, there’s no debating that, but it can also be very rewarding if you keep at it.

Believe it or not, this system today is light years ahead of where it was five years ago. Back in the day, it wasn’t uncommon for a nomination to take 12 to 18 months to make it through the review queue. Nowadays, 12 to 18 days feels like a long time.

From OPR to Wayfarer there has always been subjectivity in the system. Nothing here is perfectly consistent. I’ve had numerous nominations rejected multiple times before getting approved. Just be persistent and iterate forward on your nomination (look at it from the reviewer’s perspective and what they might be seeing that is causing them to reject). Related to this, spend time reviewing so that you know what the system looks like from the reviewer’s perspective.

It has always been a time-intensive labor of love to build out the network (on the nomination side and the review side). When I started out in this system, I was just trying to make more pogo gyms so I could do more raids with my friends. That’s a still a big motivator for me, but I’ve also come to enjoy the other aspects of the system as well. It is a particular pleasure to see your friends sending you gifts from stops you created and knowing that they are enjoying what you have created.

this is only tangentially related, but did it use to be the case that you had a limited number of skips when reviewing? That’s definitely an improvement on Wayfarer if so…

I find nominating eligible POIs and updating POI photos to be worthwhile since it directly benefits my gameplay. I don’t review since I don’t find it worth my time.

If someone is nominating random things without regard to current criteria or doesn’t read up on S2 cells so their approved nomination doesn’t show in-game, it can definitely be frustrating and feel unrewarding. However, with a bit of reading into how the system functions, most of my nominations go through without appeal–especially in the past year when I actually started reading how to submit POIs instead of winging it and hoping for the best.

Yes. We used to only have three skips. The extras were added when there was a challenge involving reviewing edits, and they have not been removed.
