We’ve all experienced it in the last few days, the system is clearly overloaded/underpowered. It seems doubtful that the problems will be easily fixed unless Niantic are able to invest more resources to the issue. Until someone does, this will continue to happen.
Additionally, the limitations on where reviewers get to review (especially during these challenges) are far too tight, causing users to have to rely on posts on these forums in order to try to find new Wayspots to review when they get the dreaded ‘all done’ message. Many of us are happy to review Wayspots from anywhere (I have a plugin that auto translates pages into English, so I don’t care where the edit/submission is from)
I would suggest that during these challenges, the user should be able to adjust the area size they review, and possibly allow worldwide reviews for users who want it. And another setting so that users could select a specific language to accept reviews in.
It’s clear that the Wayfarer team didnt foresee the issues we’ve been having for the past couple of days (in my own experience the first 2 days of the challenge went well, and it gradually slowed after that, presumably as more people had time to participate) and their intention was to probably clear the backlog before the databases are split, but I hope that they take most of the criticism in good faith and provide us with solutions that provide a fair chance to those that have missed out these last few days, and perhaps allow us users to take a more active role in the area we review, rather than limiting us all to little boxes.
Your best bet is to change your home and bonus locations to another country. The Wayfarer did foresee this being an issue, so that’s why we have unlimited changes in the challenge. Tehstone got an useful forum post with idea of countries to review in.
Thanks for the suggestion, but the availability of Waypoints to review is not the problem. The slowness of the system is entirely down to the server(s) not being able to keep up with demand. This is evident from:
I have been switching locations fairly regularly from the first day of the challenge.
The first day everything was very fast, but slowed a little on the second, and from the third day became slower and over the weekend almost unusable. (around 2000 of the 2200+ reviews I have successfully done were on days 1-3)
The speed of the website, and how fast it responds to any page or request, changes depending on the time of day (and the times it was faster on Saturday, were very similar to those on Sunday and today)
Changing locations only helps if there are currently no available reviews in your current area, I have had the “Well done, come back later” message several times, and then 5 mins later a refresh (without location change) serves up more reviews.
Changing locations is still a good thing, especially as we all want to target the areas with the most candidates, but it wont solve the issues most of us are having.
PokemonGo trainers! Please go out and submit things for us to review!
I agree that Niantic should automatically widen the area pulled into review. We shouldn’t have to keep changing our home and bonus locations. But I think Niantic doesn’t have incentive to improve the system, because it’s already sold.
Also, given that so many people are so frustrated, IMO they should extend the contest. But, they may not be able to, based on the timeline for selling Wayfarer (etc). Perhaps goodwill is not quantifiable as part of the product transfer.
EDIT: Lastly, Niantic could just lower the number of reviews needed for the top rewards. Like: since so few are getting 500 reviews, maybe give the OPR Live badge a tick at 200. It doesn’t hurt Niantic (or the sale of their games) to give out extra free stuff.
This error needs you wait a full 20 mins to allow the system to clear.
So when it happens take a break…..which is a good thing to do from time to time.
