One thing I never joke about is safety and security.
As for any experience built by Niantic, one should always be aware of their surroundings and never put themselves in hazardous situations. This also goes for creating gaussian splats with Scaniverse. Please don’t do what you described.
Don’t worry.
I would never had something to the map that is dangerous. I wish I could say the same for everyone
Are these safe? There’s no way I would get these through review on the grounds of being unsafe.
If you think they are dangerous, they should be reported.
I know that there are exception to those where the location of a mural is in an over/under path, but this is precisely what satellite view and street view do not provide good context on.
Most of these screenshotted are “event” imports specifically for Sau Paulo Brazil. They are not attached to anything in real life and the process should have been vetted carefully. But alas here we are again complaining about less than ideal imports.
So it’s my fault if they are not removed?
The onus is on me and other Wayfarers to remove unsafe, yes they are in the middle of the road and on a train track, the blame doesn’t lie at the feet of Niantic and it’s staff?
Good call @RoIi112 given the logos they look like import. I will check with the team who worked on that.
From what I see from the screenshots from @26thDoctor I believe that those could be automatically detected as overlapping freeways and train tracks.
Fascinating.
Is there a reason Niantic has never done that before, then? Like, with any import? Or even regular nominations?
Maybe they could also be automatically detected as no longer existing
Or detected as being on school grounds
Or detected as not meeting any eligibility criteria
Thanks for taking the time to answer.
I’m pretty sure these and other imports wouldn’t be bulk added to the US, UK etc.
As a Go player who enjoys Wayfarer the Go team are really p1ss1ng me off but here we are
Agree, but also, they aren’t required.
@NianticTintino As you mentioned that comment box doesn’t exist in Ingress for agents so only Pokemon Go trainers currently have that option for a scaniverse link. But agents would love to know if that comment box will be added to Ingress at some point? (It would be cool if both trainers and agents both had this comment box option for using scaniverse links)
This was already answered:
Just up to the Ingress team to implement I guess, so I am sure we will get it shortly, like the duplicates map when nominating and the category selection screen…
Soon™
So, again, splats aren’t required when requesting renewal. Being an Android user, I haven’t tried it, and I don’t have much desire to try Scaniverse.
However, the comment box is helping with removal requests. I submitted 3 removal requests, 2 for closed businesses and 1 for a removed mural. I didn’t include any links to photos/splats, but did explain that they no longer exist. All three have been removed as Wayspots.
Now, I did request removal for a tennis court that has been converted into a basketball/pickleball court, as I’d like to submit each separately. I decided to take a photo showing how the courts are now, uploaded it to an image sharing site, and included the link. I’m still waiting to hear back on this one.
Some have assumed falsely that splats are required when requesting removals. I’ll tell you right now there aren’t, but may be helpful. The more info that can be given is helpful, so even a link to a photo may help.
Hopefully Ingress will get the comment box option soon, as there are still quite a few Wayspot removal appeals being posted everyday. My hope is that removal requests get added to Contribution Management so if they have to be appealed, they can be done from there, and also have no restrictions on appeals for removal requests.
Im really glad you said this. Ive never tried to remove anything before, but the other day I finally got back to an area where someone had faked a sign for a park entrance, but Id actually got the real entrance (a small wooden bridge) approved, so I wanted to remove the sign waypoint because it doesnt exist
I didnt really understand this whole splat thing and didnt have time to research, download new apps or make accounts so I just submitted it mentioning the sign is not there and that I could share images/proof if required.
I hope it works. I really want to see the bridge waypoint pop up instead of something that doesnt exist
Yeah, some are thinking that in order to remove a Wayspot, you have to submit a splat with it as well. Not the case. Really, they want more info, and if you can provide a link to a photo or a splat, even better.
I just submitted another removal request today for a statue that’s been long gone at a truck stop. I took a photo, uploaded it, and provided the link in my comment.
I think Splats are helpful to add to removals/appeals in some instances but as you say, the main great thing in this is that there is a comments box for removals.
I’ve added in news article links to ones recently (such as closed pubs) and can see I may add in some photo or video links in future.
Will my family want to wait around whilst I do a splat to help the removal request? Probably not.
The statue I submitted was removed within a few hours. Quite surprised by that.
