This does not validate your original post. Of course you need to check to make sure the thing being nominated is actually at the spot the submitter claims. No one has ever argued against that.
Well, majority of experienced reviewers said “yep, this checks out”
I found it in New Orleans! Now I wonder if it was like that case with a wayspot in Getty for a POI that was from England. Maybe Ninatic can move this to New Orleans? Is there a special form for location edits over 1000 km?
I am not really understanding this thread and will need to turn notifications off. It just seems to be mocking people.
But, you found a fake nomination. So just report it.
I don’t know if you are getting frustrated with nominators or reviewers.
I do know in my area people do not review because they “aren’t helping Niantic for free” and say “it is Niantic’s job, not mine”.
I do enjoy the occasional funny submission I review and will share with my kids. A rock as a trailhead or a stop sign because there is apparently nothing else better.
Yet you need to realize that kids can nominate things as well. Both my kids are at the level in pokemon go to nominate and my son is also at the right level in ingress. They know I do reviewing occasionally so they ask me, but many probably don’t. Mostly they point things out for me to nominate since they don’t want to deal with it.
The title kinda says it all - it’s about low quality wayspots and other things that end up in games.
And about this particular nomination - I wonder if it was moved here by mistake, if it was a fake nomination approved by Niantic’s automated system, or if it was a fake nomination approved by reviewers (majority of experienced reviews, as some users here like to point out). We might never know, but in case it was NOT a mistake, I think it doesn’t hurt to share this with others so that next time we get to review something like this, we are more careful and pay more attention to details.
But feel free to turn off notifications. Participation here is not mandatory, you know
Bold of you to assume the people who reviewed that were experienced.
Is it also bold of others to assume other wayspots were reviewed by experienced people? Cause the phrase “experienced reviewers” was not mentioned by me originally.
Bold of anyone to assume it was reviewed and not approved by ML ¯_(ツ)_/¯
This is creative, but no.
This thread does highlight some of the major flaws of the system. If you had voted to reject this Wayspot your rating would most likely go down since it was approved. The same will often happen if you vote according to the fine print in the criteria rather than comparing the nomination to existing Wayspots in your area.
Just a general reminder that simply posting a nomination or accpted wayspot, just to say someone considers it is bad is not something that is nice to do as it can turn into mocking behaviour.
This forum tries to support positive interactions.
It is better to discuss what makes something a good or good enough wayspot.
That is a fair point. But a very large part of this forum is actually specific complaints about invalid Wayspots.
I joined the community for the first time on a different topic a while ago, and there are some cases that I thought were related to this topic, so I would like to hear everyone’s opinions. I think it’s hard to understand because the case is local.
In Japan, “Jizo” is often approved as a Wayspot, but a statue with a different shape was submitted for review under the title “Jizo.” Within the limited time of 20 minutes, I did some research on the Internet and found out that it was a statue of “Blue-faced Kongo.” I thought that the title should be “Blue-faced Kongo,” so I rejected it. (I also wrote down the reason for the refusal.) Was this judgment wrong?
If the nomination was unique or artistic, should we have approved it even if the title was incorrect? I rejected it due to an error in the title, and if the community also rejects it, the nomination can research the subject, correct the title, and apply again. Nomination can also appeal to Niantic. (If a majority of the community thought it was “Jizo” or thought “religious stone statue” should be approved even though the title is incorrect, I would lose one agreement. That’s it. )
Regarding the “pool” that was being talked about, I think it would be better to take a photo that shows the pool, as long as there is no problem with the location.
(How to Review Wayspots>Photo Guidelines>Well composed - the Wayspot or place marker is centered without too much foreground or background, or objects passing by in front)
From a brief research I did about Jizo and Blue-faced Kongo, I agree with your decision to reject such nomination - those two seem to be different things.
I agree with your thinking. A nomination, which is a potential wayspot, is not just a POI itself. It’s the POI, how you name the nomination, what info you put about the POI, where it is located, and what photo of POI you submit. All this together makes it a nomination. Just because the POI is great, doesn’t mean that the nomination will be great, too, or even be eligible. If a nomination’s title doesn’t correspond to its POI, it should be rejected. And there’s nothing wrong with rejections. Rejection is an opportunity to learn and maybe to redo, but better this time around. And yes, if submitter believes they are in the right and reviewers are in the wrong, they can always appeal directly to Niantic.
Regarding the pool - that’s exactly what I said. The submitter could have taken a photo from the other side or a photo of the pool itself. Teaching moment for future submissions!
This is an example of someone submitting a half-baked nomination and then someone else trying to fix it.
The sign itself is a good POI. No reason to include benches. Benches in the shade don’t matter, period. And one of them is not even in the shade! Photo of the sign, title from the sign, some summed up info from the sign - and you have a pretty good nomination.
Instead we have this. Someone got credit, and now someone else is fixing it for no credit.
This is most likely by the same submitter and from the same editor as the previous wayspot.
Whoever fixes such wayspots - I salute you. I know how frustrating it can be to come across something like this.
there’s been some lively discussion in this thread but I think it’s time to close it up
