My nomination was rejected and then my photo was stolen. Is this normal? How do I prevent it from happening again?

As the title states, I submitted a Wayspot nomination and it was rejected as a “duplicate” even though I checked the map prior to submitting. There is a “community-contributed” Wayspot at the location using my submitted photo as its cover photo.

Is it within acceptable Niantic Wayfarer guidelines for someone to just take my photo without acknowledgement? How do I know my nominations won’t continue to be rejected even if my photos will be taken and used? Seriously, how are you going to take my photo and then tell me I’m the duplicate???

Provided:

  • A screenshot of your nomination, including rejection reasons if it has already been rejected * Include the title, description, both photos, and supplemental information

  • Copy and paste the title, description and supplemental so others can translate them

The Tiger is the true King of the Jungle Gym. This amazing combination of art and function is 1 of 4 main playscapes at the La Verde Park at the Brick and Mortar District.

This is a relatively new city park. The other nearby pokestops are private property in an apartment complex. this playscape is awesome, with 2 slides, a climbing web/net, and a tube system where you can tell in one and and it projects sound from the tiger’s mouth.

  • If you feel comfortable please share the location, as it is helpful (i.e. hidden duplicates), but you can mask it if you wish.

Location
La Verde Park, 3901 Burnham, Kyle, TX 78640, USA

Hello and welcome @ptarodactyl

I suspect that someone else submitted this around the same time as as you. So both of you would see that it wasn’t submitted and nothing there. There’s went into voting and resolved first. Once theirs was in voting yours was left in queue as the community has observed there is a block that stops submissions very close together being in voting at the same time.

This meant that once yours entered voting reviewers would see the other submission as an approved wayspot and mark it as a duplicate.

When a submission is marked as a duplicate, the photo is added to the wayspot that it has been duplicated to. It looks as though this is what has happened in your case.

Although on the map it is tagged as cover photo I have seen that happen with the most recent photo, and if you go to the stop the actual photo disc might be the other photo. Looking at the photos on the disc should show the time difference.

This happened with one of my submissions recently where someone submitted it and it was duplicated to mine 3 days later.

If you would like your photo to be the one everyone sees ( and it’s a great POI and photo) simply :+1: on the photo at the location or via a gift.

I have had it happen at least twice that my photo - not just the same subject, but my exact photo - was used in a submission that I saw in review after my nomination of the same thing had been rejected. I reported the situation to help chat and they “took action”.

Had a chance to check fully and it looks like someone else’s was also duplicated to this new wayspot.

There are now 3 photos attached to it.

It’s hardly surprising that as it a great. Subject to be a wayspot that multiple people are submitting.

The period of time recently when approved wayspots were not syncing into pogo, probably gave a window when people thought submitting would create a new stop. But it woukd show as a duplicate to reviewers.

How do you know the photos were added as duplicates and not simply submitted?

I can’t be sure but as the original post showed theirs was rejected as a duplicate and that was confirmed on appeal, then that is a reasonable guess. It is the simplest reason for there being at least 2, and likely reason for the 3rd as it is described as new. The photos on the wayspot disc would be the way to confirm as at the moment if you check it will say number of days.

The photo should have the submitter name right? If its rejected as duplicate, the name should be op. Its the most logical and easiest to happen. Stealing foto is not that simple and may not happen that fast either.
