Oh my goodness
Bl00dy meddling Time lords…
Wayfarer team’s lack of understanding of the most criteria is evident in the low-quality and incorrectly location wayspot cluster that was imported in large numbers in India.
Also, even when a Wayfinder is nominated, it is obvious where it is coming from if you check the portals in Ingress.
And it is no wonder Emily’s brain is poor if she is importing such a truly low quality years of data and having it machine learning.
Wayfarer team should learn what POI is.
These stops are extremely low-effort and downright bad. They’d never pass human review.
Frustrating to think that these stops are approved automatically but we still cannot get stops approved in Boston.
So if you’ve seen these for a long period of time, it proves my ‘always’ point?
The further issue now is, there’s significantly more of these submissions popping up now (and being accepted) in my experience of reviewing UK submissions.
Also highlights how different areas have different issues using the same standardised system.
Somewhat related side note, there were historical events + features that have left their mark on Wayfayer assets. There was a charity event (definitely in the UK, not sure if globally) where generic charity shops were encouraged to be be submitted and appear in Ingress. These no longer meet criteria, but still 4 charity shop portals remain in a nearby town. These appear in other games like Pogo. Point is, different submitters have different understandings of what’s acceptable based on what they have seen in their games. Particularly in their local area. It’s not their fault and should not assume they’re submitting a stop to be malicious. An area with 1 bench that slipped through x years ago is likely to get a lot more around them.
I saw Norway, Spain, the US and then I got bored of clicking through. Yes, these are bad wayspots but there are literally millions of wayspots out there.
If there are concentrations of bad wayspots then that might indicate a voting ring pushing them through, if they’re just random then it’s bad judgment.
To be 100% fair, most of these POI’s were approved before eMiLy came online. I know this, because one of these POI’s in my area. It’s been live nearly 18 months.
The topic here is Wayspots that were approved by Niantic personnel. Either via appeal or in “Niantic voting.”
every one of these was approved by Niantic. they’re the voting ring
I know many of these seem pretty lame but remember not everyone lives in a large city where there is some cultural or historic spot almost on every block. There are players who live in rural areas with limited “interesting” places to add waypoints. While I certainly am not quite rural I do have to take a 15 minute drive to get to any location where play is possible. So I say whatever they add is fine by me if it allows more players to enjoy the game.
I agree with you. There is one argument for them though. Most towns that have neighbourhood signs are going to be unique (to that area) as you are generally not going to have multiple neighbourhoods with the same name.
Granted you could have an area called “The Rise”, Gardens, place etc in multiple towns but a title distinguishing the town at the end would make them a little different.
At least with Memorial Benches they generally are dedicated to different people so the have a little uniqueness to them.
Still agree with you though.
There is a difference between something being locally significant and these mistaken accepts. The “Newer Starbucks” I posted had Pokemon references in the description, which is not allowed. As for areas that have less to submit, I have even accepted a gas station as locally significant with a good supporting statement.
That’s not what this post is about
Well that’s even worse! Why are they allowed to clear low-quality POIs near you when other places have standards?
Aren’t some of these sponsors? I know Starbucks was a sponsor in the USA for a while, and that McDonald’s has been in some other country/ies.
These are not sponsored Wayspots.
Thanks for reporting @tehstone I’ve taken actions on them and I’m syncing with the team to ensure that we get better alignment within the team.
Would you please take a look at these two examples for me?

Similarly for here, I had a report rejected for a private residence that’s a generic AirBNB. The description is basically a Yelp review explaining how much they enjoyed their stay.
How was this approved to begin with?
