Odd reasoning by Niantic team for declining an appeal

Hello fellow Wayfarers,

This is my first post so be gentle :joy:. I had submitted the following for a potential Wayspot addition.

The community’s reasons for rejecting the Wayspot didn’t make much sense to me (as you can see in the appeal writeup) so I appealed it and received an odd rejection from the Niantic staff.

The part stating that the submission is located within an inaccessible location of a workplace is inaccurate as it is located within a lunchroom that every worker has access to. It is located within a secured facility meaning it falls under the restricted category but is still accessible for people working there (not unlike a gated community, members only, or military installment which are specified in the game as acceptable Wayspots).

Though the map itself isn’t all that special visually, what makes it distinct is what it brings to the element of socialization and being a place for the community to engage with each other which is the bigger point to my submission. I really believe it was a thoughtful submission as it does have value as a way to socialize with co-workers over the places they’ve traveled and can foster exploration to other areas of the world. The pins with initials being a really cool addition and ultimately what makes the map special as you can find the coworker and ask them about their experiences abroad.

What are your thoughts as a community? Is there a way to appeal an appeal? If there isn’t a way to appeal an appeal, should there be for cases like this?

I’m going to leave this one to staff. While that sounds like a bad rejection to me, I don’t have an understanding of the type of facility where this is located. I can’t make a judgment without knowing that.

The POI is located beside an industrial facility but not inside of the facility itself. The entrance to the general area has a security checkpoint so that’s what would make it a restricted area not unlike a military base but that specific building is an office building where said lunch room and map are located and all ~100 workers on the work site have access to it. It’s a safe and accessible office building so I don’t see why they would say it’s located in an inaccessible area of workplace especially since it’s a lunchroom that can be accessed by anyone on the work site.

If they thought that it was inside of the industrial facility then I would think they would have used that as the reasoning for declining the appeal due to safety. In that case, again I would argue that in the category of “is it safe”, the answer would be yes because the building isn’t directly inside of the industrial facility and doesn’t require any personal safety equipment/clothing or safety training to access. It’s like any other office building in the world, it’s just in an area that requires security clearance to access not unlike office towers that require you to have an access card to access certain floors/areas.

Can you provide proof that its located in safe area of the factory? Since i assume its inside building, do you have building layout or geotagphoto to proof your pin placement? I think that would help people understand if its positioned correctly

It’s located in the blue roofed building which has nothing to do with a factory or any of the industrial workings in the area apart from being an office building. There are vehicles parked around it as you can see from the aerial photo (can use it as proof of the area being accessible and as a measuring stick for how far away the building is from the industrial area in the bottom portion of the picture (roughly a football field and a half away)).

Personally i think the rejection about workplace is wrong. I am more concerned if this is missplaced or fake. If nothing happen in several days, i think you can try resubmit. You might need to use geotagged photo so that reviewer can be sure that the object is really inside that building. Use website submission so that you can use 5 photo. Use multiple photo and /or collage showing step by step entrance can show that the object is real.
