Please Reevaluate Wayfarer Criteria for Rural Areas

Apartment buildings are not single family private residential property, or SFPRP. POIs around apartment buildings are allowed, as these are multi-family. Some apartment buildings may restrict who can access the area, but restricted access doesn’t mean that there aren’t people in these areas shouldn’t be able to use these Wayspots. Don’t know if anyone has address this yet, as I have nominated and gotten accepted POIs at apartment buildings in my rural hometown.

Many rural and suburban areas deal with poor development of neighborhoods, where there may be a large neighborhood full of SFPRP and little else, not even a park or outdoor area to explore. That’s not something that Wayfarer has control over. In my rural hometwon, there is a beautification committee, who are focusing on adding POIs to the town. They have worked with businesses to add murals to their buildings, an outdoor musical intrument area with benches at a local park, among other things.

Now, there are also city zoning laws that could prevent some types of POIs being put up in residential zoned areas. There is a city not far from me that is having a debate right now about whether or not a mural at the state school for the bland/state vision services can stay up. The wall the mural is on faces SFPRP, and per city zoning laws, it may not be legal. However, since this is a state-owned building/land, the city may not have jurisdiction over the mural. Right now, the mural is still up as the city looks through all of this before making a decision.

BTW, I live in an apartment building in a neighborhood with other apartment buildings: none of them have any POIs that would be eligible for Wayfarer. It’s an older neighborhood, so thinkgs like picnic areas, dog parks, playgrounds, and pools weren’t thought of being included. So even though I live in an urban area, I still have to go outside of my home to play, and getting out and exploring is one of the aspects of some of the game play.
