Real, accurate church Wayspot mysteriously removed after reporting sign Wayspot

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: North Carthage Baptist Church

  • Location (lat/lon): 36.259195,-85.949876

  • City: Carthage, TN

  • Country: United States

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any):
As pictured below, I had made a removal report for the Wayspot “North Carthage Baptist Church” located at (36.259323,-85.950769). I made this report as a “Duplicate Wayspot” report for “North Carthage Baptist Church” as that one not only had an identical name, but actually represented the church and was placed accurately on the building. As evident from the above email, this report was rejected.

However, I found that, for some reason, the Wayspot that represents the actual church (36.259195,-85.949876), while the church sign that I reported stayed. This is unusual, as the Wayspot that was removed was completely accurate and best represents the actual church. The Wayspot I reported, however, uses a very low quality image to represent a sign for the church by the side of the road. There are also no sidewalks on the section of road adjacent to the sign, and it is placed directly inside of a parking space (which can be verified through Street View), making it unsafe as well.

As pictured below, the Wayfarer FAQ also states that signs should be reported as duplicates if the object the sign is meant to represent already has an existing Wayspot, and even contains this specific example between churches and church signs, making this removal of the actual church Wayspot even more confusing.

With all of this in mind, keeping the reported sign Wayspot (36.259323,-85.950769) instead of the actual church Wayspot (36.259195,-85.949876) does not accurately represent this location. It would also be incorrect to attempt to modify the sign Wayspot (36.259323,-85.950769) to represent the church, as trying to change the object connected to a Wayspot is considered repurposing.

I request that the accurate, wrongly removed Wayspot “North Carthage Baptist Church” that represents the church itself is reinstated (36.259195,-85.949876), and that the low quality sign Wayspot that I initially reported (36.259323,-85.950769) is removed.

Which one was older?

I don’t remember the exact dates, but iirc they were both from 2014

As the sign and the church are indeed duplicates, eliminating the church building doesn’t mean the sign is being repurposed.

I do see that the sign is a gym, so this maybe why the other wayspot was removed.

Still, the original wayspot for the church would have been my preference.

I didn’t say that the sign was being repurposed just because the church building Wayspot was removed.

If this is the case, the sign shouldn’t be prioritized because of in-game status. Especially not by staff.

As you said yourself, the sign and church are duplicates, so it’s nor repurposing

There has been a lot of abuse, people trying to remove gyms. So I do understand if they are cautious.

Thanks for the appeal, @Diedntgo , we have restored the Wayspot in question and you should see the changes reflected soon. Best,
