Wayspot Title: KICC Christian Church
Location (lat/lon): 51.40889410524274, 0.025004428443864087
City: Bromley, London
Country: UK
Additional Information:
This church was added as a Wayspot only recently, and has been deleted for no obvious reason. My guess is that someone claimed it wasn’t there, because you can’t see it on the latest Google street view images because it is a new church. If you visit the church, however, it is plain to see it exists. There are signs above the door, on the street and on noticeboards on the walls of the adjunct building where services are held. It would be hard to miss the church if you actually visited the location.
The images are from the initial successful submission, with the addition of an older street view image where you can see the door to the ajunct building. It’s clear this matches the door in the submissions, so it definitely exists right there, and also you can see the KICC church located on google maps.
Beautiful church! It’s clearly there. It could be that the church leadership asked that the wayspot be removed. That happens sometimes.
I also wonder if they reported as a duplicate since the main building already has a wayspot. It might be hard to argue that the two different groups are using different parts of the same building so it needs two wayspots. I know the building is “adjacent” but it is connected.
These are two separate churches. The beautiful church is a building used by the United Reform Church (URC). The KICC church originated in the local black community and is housed in a separate building. The geography is clearer on another Google map.
It seems unlikely that the church would ask for it to be removed, as there are two other wayspots in the same area that have been there for years, but it would be good to know the reason. It’s disappointing to take time creating a wayspot, taking the pictures, doing the research, getting it accepted by the community, only to have it disappear without explanation some weeks later.
I guess what I should have asked is if you have verified that it is actually gone. A location edit could have moved it to where it does not show up in Pokemon Go or Ingress. You can check in the Pogo nomination screen with the toggle on if you are standing right there to see if the Wayspot still exists, just in a different place. I didn’t mention that because usually someone who has access to the Wayfarer app will see posts like this and check without prompting.
