Additional Information: While the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald was torn down from its base in a BLM protest in 2020, the huge pedestal, its carvings and its other decorative elements are still present to this day. It’s remains an important piece of history for the city in one of the most central park.
The pedestal holds artistic and historic value. Even if it’s empty, it’s not going anywhere (source: Montreal won't return toppled John A. Macdonald statue to its downtown pedestal | CBC News): “But the pedestal where the statue stood since its er*ction in 1895 will stay, as per the recommendations of a committee set up to determine its future.” (2023)
