Staff closed topic without weighing in

I give up. Why should I care if staff doesn’t?

I agree this is frustrating. All that needs to be done is set guidelines. If that is unable to done then make commitment that it would be discussed internally and a statement at a later date.

I understand a moderator or staff member can’t make a final decision. There is clearly a need for clarity on this subject.

To the wayfarer team:

We are trying to get more clarification on certain topics. We are sick of the limited info we get and we want more. We can’t judge or review when we see decisions being made in the forums that are confusing to us without explaining it to us. This leads to unnecessary topics and discussions being made about this and people getting frustrated over it.

We would like clarification on the topics, not a simple thank you for the discussion and furthermore not giving any information for the future. It seems to us we are being ignored here, when us reviewers have to do the hard work when reviewing wayspots, and we can’t even do that on certain things now.

Please answer our questions, don’t ignore the community, like how it seems now.

I second this. Also if possible a resolution would free up time and resources for you guys as well.

When you review nominations, you dont always have to make a reject or accept decision, you can always press “skip”
Using that when you come across a Neighborhood Sign will save you from future headaches. You won’t always have the answer for everything.

Perhaps Niantic is just silently giving the rural and suburban players a bone.

I AM NOT A NIANTIC EMPLOYEE

Sometimes no answer is the answer. This is especially true when the system is designed to work by everyone using their best judgment.

If you have difficulty working within the framework of using your best judgment, then maybe it’s time to take a break and clear your mind.

The issue is based on the guidelines as a whole and the intent expressed in them. They should not be valid for approval.

I don’t mind reviewing them because if I can help the game not spiral in mediocrity through generic things being a poke stop then I want to help.

My best memories are discovering new places in my surrounding areas, discovering art statues and the such. I’m learning more about the area I live while playing a GAME. This is truly amazing.

But if you play pokemon go and all you spin are sponsored stops and generic entrances to neighborhoods, flag poles, and other things people consider generic locations or things, the magic of this game is gone.

There needs to be a balance of what’s good for the game and the players.

Maybe the better response would be to state “Your comments will be passed to the appropriate team who will make a statement at a later date if they feel it is required.”

As long as they follow through with that I’m good with it and it’s not posted locked and no follow up.

If that was the case, there are much better ways of going about it.

Personally I’m of the view that they’re mostly ineligible, except for the odd one which crosses into artistic territory, maybe because it’s got a hand painted piece of art or some unique sculpted stonework, or maybe a contained fountain.

That being said, I’m also not blind to the fact that these kinds of things might be the only really noteworthy thing in an area, especially when it comes to copy and pasted HOA neighbourhoods in the US. On the wayfarer subreddit I did recently post saying that whilst these don’t meet current criteria, maybe there could be some sort of fourth eligibility criteria created that would allow for some of these kinds of “grey area” things without completely opening the floodgates to a load more coal. That could be something for the wayfarer team to consider. I don’t have any ideas what I’d call this potential new category, or what exactly I’d put in it aside from neighbourhood entrance signs, but it would be a more constructive way to go about things whilst also getting a definitive clarification on eligibility for them.

As things currently stand, it would be nice to have a clarification relating to the current criteria, especially as they don’t appear to meet the current criteria but they are often (erroneously?) accepted and then not removed.

For my personal take, something I see submitted a lot in the UK (post boxes) is never going to have an official Wayfarer clarification.

I’ve accepted that that’s the case. These US-centric signs would seem to fall under the same.

I wouldn’t expect a clarification for something you get in only one of the many countries in the world where you can do Wayfarer.

It’s hard to tell that with Niantic at least because they had inaction on things in the past and only through discussion and people taking issue was something done.

So if that’s the approach it’s muddled at best and won’t be clearly received based on past events.

The problem is where and how do you decide the cut off line. Wherever it was set someone is complaining as they have just missed out.

The only idea I could come up with would be something like “1 “grey area” per L14 cell until the L14 cell has 6 other L17 cells occupied then it is removed”. Seems like a lot of work…

I have placed this topic in a slightly slo mode.
This is to enable discussion but to try and prevent it becoming heated.
Please think about what you are posting to ensure it adds to the discussion

Them not saying anything IS how they prevent the floodgates from opening. If they said anything, you would either get mass rejects and mass reports or mass submissions and mass acceptance.

The ambiguity is what causes hesitation and is what holds the flood gates back. Their silence is work as intended.

And that why there needs to be clarification. Not everyone needs to be happy but the rules and guidelines should be clear.

I have no skin in this game as I’m not US-based. I’m just seeing something that needs addressing. Either (1) explicitly, (2) via “we’ve passed your comments on” as per @SlimboyFat71 or (3) something similar. Simply attempting to close down the discussion is a little bit… crass/offensive.

Totally agree.
The issue is the moderators either can’t make a decision or have no method of providing feedback from what I fear.

Based on others comments I can only figure out that you have to endless bring up the issue for something to be done in any capacity.

Here are my personal views
Do we as wayfinders need something beyond the guidelines that we have around this type of object?

My view is that we dont.
Most of Wayfarer is about a rainbow of colour and applying broad guidelines and our own judgement. That is an aspect I like, but I recognise it doesn’t suit everyone. If everything was a simple yes or no then it doesnt need a human to decide. And it would be boring.

Wayfarer has the globe to service. The good thing about such broad criteria is we dont end up having to tie down every version of everything around the world. It would be never ending and pointless as they would frequent review and tweaking.
I would rather put my faith in my fellow wayfinders to do what they are supposed to and use their best (sometimes imperfect) judgement.

To me this is largely a USA issue and looking at the posts that occur here I truly can’t see why this is a major issue.
As a reviewer you get the estate sign you review against criteria, you submit and move on.
As a reviewer you get cafe you review against criteria , you submit and move on
There is no need for a detailed clarification

There are phases win wayfarer when various objects dominate the discussion
postboxes, trail markers, memorial benches… This too shall pass

You can’t see why it is a major issue when this is half the reviews we get?
