Tier Progression Update

If there’s so much abuse the rewards should be adjusted. If you want to earn the fracker / rare candy all rejects should count as -1. This way the quality matters more and people will do more afford to actually submit things that get approved.

I disagree about rejects subtracting. Good edits are rejected too often.

Yeah for example this, about a post office. If this gave me a -1 I’d be so cross

I tried to correct an edit I made when I realized the approved edit had a typo.

My attempt to correct that contained a different typo, so I withdrew it. For now I’m leaving the typo alone. I hate typing descriptions on my phone!

I had to do the same when I didn’t notice a “C” hadn’t typed. Seems so silly that I couldn’t just edit in the “C” instead of having to withdraw and resubmit. Especially right now where every edit counts. But I didn’t want to let it go through review with “West ary” instead of “West Cary”.

I strongly agree. I’ve also been around since the early Ingress days, so I may be biased, but wayspot titles/names really need do need to follow proper title capitalization.

I think that Niantic removing the automatic capitalization in their games for each word in titles during wayspot nomination was a misstep as I now see title that have lowercase words and they look really off. It’s been great for this challenge though I guess. Most of my edits have been correcting these titles.

Early Ingress did indeed capitalize every word, but that’s not Title case - it’s Proper case. As the field is a Title field, I always prefer Title case in which individual important words are capitalized but linking words are not. I usually tell people to look at the spines of any books they may own, and see how those book titles are capitalized - it’s “The Catcher in the Rye”, after all, not “The Catcher In The Rye”.

I use title case, too, but if I were to simply refer to the spines of books, I’d see:
ARGUABLY ESSAYS
I AM A STRANGE LOOP
career of evil
What is the name of this book?
etc.

It’s not that helpful…

Capitalization is highly dependent on the language. Did you know that German capitalizes every Noun not just proper Nouns?

I did, in fact, although I didn’t realize that ‘noun’ war ein deutsches Wort…

(I don’t know much German)

It bugs me worst when a proper name isn’t capitalized, like a person, restaurant, church - legal names for writing on checks, and having on deeds/leases. Capitals are part of the name.

If the Wayspot title is just made up, like “pavilion at the top of the hill”, it is irksome. But not quite as bad as “monterrey mexican restaurant”.

Where are we on the progress? Tier 2 still?

We haven’t been provided with any actual tier progression, and most are thinking we won’t know until the challenge ends, due to the abuse that the staff is having to deal with.

@Tintino001 Hello! Hope you’re having an amazing Friday.

I was wondering if we could get another update on where we’re at as a community with the challenge. Sometime in the next 45 minutes would be amazing… for no particular reason at all.

I wonder… if we have gone beyond Tier 3… and I mean way way WAY beyond Tier 3, and the spam has been sorted, I hope the Wayfarer Team can give us a Tier 4 level reward.

I believe the update is somewhere along the lines of “oops, we started banning our best contributors by accident, wait a bit while we sort it out”

Maybe we will get a ban as a reward instead

Don’t give them ideas!!

How? I have 23 approved and only 2 rejects within this challenge, and I was worried to be within the “spamming” ratio. In my cases I just replaced titles without a capital and only adding this first capital letter.

Is it so differently in different countries?

That’s the point. It will refrain people for sending in spam. It should be about submitting quality. Rejects should be added to discourage poor submits.
