Title Appeal

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Hidden Creek Park East

  • Location (lat/lon): 45.521021, -122.928913

  • City: Hillsboro , OR

  • Country: USA

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any): the current title is Hidden Creek Park East , the correct title is Hidden Creek Park East (South Entrance).

The city changed the name of this park over a year ago. I appealed to have the names changed when the changes were denied. One was approved and the other was not. Now there are two waypoints with the same title name. Thank you

Hello,

Unfortunately, this thread is to appeal rejected Wayspot removal request, or to request restoration of a removed Wayspot. Any edits that have been appealed cannot be appealed again.

Looking at the Lightship map, the 2 Wayspots with this title seem to be 2 different signs for the same park. I would actually say that the one at 45.522385, -122.92872399999999 has the wrong title, as the sign in the photo says “HIllsboro Parks & Recreatation - 53rd Avenue Park.” I don’t see this sign on Street View anymore, so it actually should be removed.

2024 sign:

Niantic doesn’t care for us to repurpose Wayspots by updating their info, and this includes park signs. So, I would request the removal of the Wayspot at 45.522385, -122.92872399999999, which is the old Hillsboro Parks & Rec sign, then submit a new title edit for the sign at 45.521021, -122.928913, and note that it’s for the south entrance. Once the title has been fixed, you can nominate the sign in the central part. Here’s how the north entrance sign is in Lightship, BTW:

Yes, but they’ve been clear that features changing in a venue such as a public park (so there is no issue of changing ownership) do not constitute repurposing.

If a park is converted to a golf course, or a steak house becomes a vegan restaurant we are meant to remove and replace. But Niantic has accepted and performed park updates, themselves.

It’s still not the best title, since there are 3 entrances to this park, north, central, and south, each with similar signs. And the main photo on Lightship for the central sign is for the old sign, not the current one.

There’s a park near me that has 2 entrance signs that are the exact same, but at different locations, and both have different titles due to the location. One is for the east entrance, the other for the west entrance.

@MinaRae08 I think your other option is to submit new titles with the location noted for the central and south entrances. This would better align with the north entrance sign, which does note it’s the north entrance to the park. Also, if the central entrance sign doesn’t have a new photo uploaded yet, it would be best to do so.

I’ve done that multiple times and the community keeps rejecting. I posted in this form a month or so ago and was advised to appeal the rejection and then if that was rejected to come back here.

You aren’t submitting the titles with the directions though, so I can see why they keep getting rejected, by the ML/community and the appeals team.

I still think it’s best to resubmit the titles for the central and south entrances noting such in the titles. Yes, it’s Hidden Creek Park East on the sign, but there are 3 signs at 3 different entrances, so there needs to be something else to distinguish the 3 from each other.

I’m surprised no one looked at this area previously to see how you could improve on the title edits, but improvements can be made, so I don’t think staff will reverse the appeal rejection.

I did submit the edits with directions. This is the appeal submission email :

Thank you for providing proof. That’s typically what is needed for staff to take another look.

@NianticAaron @NianticLC Can you take another look at these bad appeal decisions?

Thank you. I just have no idea what else I could do.

Welcome! It can be confusing at times, especially if not all the info is provided. I didn’t see that in your original posts, and I would have actually posted in Nomination Support prior to appealing, as you only get 2 appeals every 20 days. Sometimes it also depends on what you provide to the appeals team, and asking what to include here can be helpful in the future.

So the Wayspot Appeals category is for appeals for waypoints incorrectly removed? Where do people go for help with appeals that are incorrect like what I have here? I just would like to know if it happens again. I honestly didn’t think I needed help getting a nomination through (as in Nomination Support) because it’s an edit that should have been a bit more cut and dry, even with multiple photos of the new and old signs at the waypoint.

Thw Wayspot Appeals says that it is for appealing Wayspot removal requests that have been denied but are valid with additional proof, or if a Wayspot has been removed but still meets criteria. Since edits were added to Contribution Management in April, they can typically only be appeals via Contribution Management.

Nomination Appeals should take place within your Contribution Management page for both Nominations and Edits. Here you can appeal rejected invalid Wayspot reports or request that removed Wayspots be restored if they didn’t meet removal criteria. (nomination & edit appeals not accepted)

However, the appeals team does make mistakes from time to time, and staff does want to know about these. Most will post in another topic, such as General Discussion or Nomination Support, asking if the rejected Contribution Management appeal can be looked at again.

I had this experience in the past with a local restaurant that the community rejected. I actually came here to ask for some nomination support, and after that, decided to appeal. The appeal though was rejected for third party photo; I had posted the full image for the nomination here in the forums and only the forums. After providing info that I actually took the photo by providing the detailed info from my phone, the rejection was reversed and the Wayspot was approved.
