Wayfarer Pet Peeves

It’s going soon with no sign of a replacement.

After this happened to me once, I started taking my photos first, then looking at them in my gallery before starting a nomination. I can crop a finger out or other small adjustments if needed. Then I use the existing photo option when making my nomination.

This is so me, last week I noticed a title had one letter wrong, then one word in the description and as I was complainning about myself someone spotted another word. I was like getting the edit through is going to take forever f…

Description: “New XYZ”
Just mention the opening date :weary:

This is a pet peeve but in reality it’s just that people don’t know any better and I sooooooooo wish I could fix it

When you can tell that the submitter didn’t know how to move the map to locate the pin on the object instead of where they happened to be standing to take the photo. I just reviewed a photo of a clubhouse with the pin located in the parking lot. It’s basically right where the view of the photo is taken from.

Oh, forgot another that really gets me: not using proper grammar, i.e. a title in all lower-case or a rambling description without any breaks, like no commas/periods. “john doe park” is so bad, and I wish we could correct grammar like this much easier to “John Doe Park” for the title, for example.

I know that this might not be a pet peeve for those in countries that use non-Latin based alphabets, such as Japan and South Korea, but since most of my reviews are in English, with some in Spanish, it can get on my nerves a bit, especially if it’s a good nomination.

This annoys me too, a lot of my edits are to correct poor spelling or capitalisation. I know I have made the occasional mistake that I haven’t spotted until after submitting but I make sure I correct them later, I’d be embarrassed if I’d submitted half of the things I come across live in the games.

Also vague titles or basic single sentence descriptions, surely there is more to say about a POI than just “Park” or “Trail Marker”.

Similarly, submissions that have zero useful supporting info, the photo doesn’t even show the POI in context and the text doesn’t offer any explanation of what I’m looking at, let alone why it’s eligible or interesting. It might be a great submission but I have no way of knowing!

Anything that is low effort really.

Improper grammar and poor spelling.

Being told:

We took another look at the Wayspot Edit Submissions in question and decided it does not meet our criteria to make necessary changes to the title/description of the Wayspot.

…when submitting edit appeals for spelling corrections that were rejected by NIA/ML.

The nomination process used to show the photo cropped as it will be in game (with “Retake” or “Use Photo”). This was lost September 2019, with the system change from OPR to Wayfarer.

IOW Blame Niantic for the poor interface - poor communication about poor cropping.

My nominations got incorrectly rejected lately because the reviewers can’t use the Maps properly. Does this count?

  1. Direction ex: Pavilion (North) Pavilion (South)
  2. Language ex: red lighthouse, another red lighthouse, red lighthouse, again! (in Chinese)
  3. Characteristics ex: Larger basketball court / Smaller basketball court
  4. Road ex: Bulletin (road A) / Bulletin(road B)

Only use the category to call the applied Wayspot name,
For example, just write “Mural”, “Sculpture” and “Pavilion”

Applied to move the location, but the deviation from the original is less than 5m

Trying to fit it evenly into the cell, but because the quality of Wayspot is really good,
I don’t know whether to move or reject

Apply for a bank, but didn’t specify which branch it is…

Overall, just lazy…

I’d love to see a list of such signs… I have approved various signs, which seemed to be interesting, but not all, and since I don’t know which reviews were agreed with I don’t know where I was right, exactly. Obviously, I know what makes sense to me, but it’s a big world full of different opinions.

Yes, the lack of feedback is frustrating.

There isnt a list, its just those that dont meet any of the three criteira. Those could be maps of things not worth exploring (factories, industrial areas, housing areas, bus route maps which are found in every single stop), signs like unartistic entrance signs for things not worth exploring (apartments/neighbourhoods), signs that dont have any information to learn about (rule signs, warning signs, awareness signs), and the obious ones like street number/name signs. These can of course meet criteria in other ways if nominated in a certain way, like nominating a park with the rule sign as an anchor for the photo.

Half my kingdom for an edit reason field to give context to proposed changes.

There’s a ruin locally that is frequently mistaken for the ancient abbey that once stood there, a misconception repeated in the waypoint title. It’s not really important, but I’ve had edits to correct the description & title rejected, presumably because the Google Maps view helpfully labels the old abbey site and, well, here are the ruins!

The kicker is that there’s another waypoint next to it for an information board fully explaining all this (and the interesting but unrelated history of the where the ruins were moved from). You can’t see this while reviewing an edit, alas, but it’s fully legible in that waypoint image!

Edit Google maps?

That’s a good shout, actually. Will see if I can get the ruin site marked there distinctly from the grounds it’s in.

I have had to do it a few times and it seemed to help with title, description edits that I was banging my head against the wall with.
