Wayfarer review suggestions

How does it work when we can send I don’t know how many versions of the new locations?

I think at least for correcting orthographic mistakes, the AI could be very useful.

It is believed some sort of average is determined… which wouldnt work with text.

1 - Yes, text edits should default to not highlighting the differences - because (a) for big changes they make reviewers’ heads hurt, and (b) for all cases it makes it look like the first one is the original, and the second a (potentially abusive) change - biasing the reviewer to the one randomly chosen to be displayed first.

2 - How about if the nomination process doesn’t allow the Supporting Image to be the exact picture with the exact same crop? It could just not highlight the Next button (or whatever it says).

3 - I see where a newbie could think that things that are valid in a park are valid anywhere - playground, sports field, etc. I’d think that a couple rejections with reason “school” would educate them. EXCEPT that our rejection emails no longer give the reasons. This newbie would need to know to check Niantic Wayfarer - but they’re not told about that.

4 - YES! It should be simple to code, to give totals on the profile page. How many nominations to I have in queue? How many edits in voting? How many pictures accepted? Once you have hundreds or thousands of submissions (maybe over many years), it’s impossible to count by hand - on the wayfarer site or in emails.
I think it would encourage people who love to contribute - to see running counters of their contributions. (That’s “what’s in it” for Niantic, for incentive to invest in this change.)

Two suggestions from me:

  1. Give ML specific rejection reasons. Presently “Wayfarer Criteria” might as well say “there could be absolutely anything wrong with this and we’re going to make you guess”.

  2. Separate “Temporary / Seasonal” from “Not Distinct”. They are entirely different reasons and should be treated as such.

Wayspot Drafts

For folks like me that use lower end androids which insist on closing PoGo as soon as another app is opened such as the camera or gallery my suggestion is a “Draft” system.

Currently when I try to nominate a wayspot it will usually get to the take photo option but will then close PoGo so it all starts again.

My suggestion is that I could send a nomination with just the Title and Location.
Close PoGo and take the images.
Re-open PoGo and continue playing.
Return home and open Wayfarer.
The nomination would appear in Wayfarer as “Draft”.
I could then upload the images / complete the info online.
This could also benifit the “Description” / “Info” fields as we could do some research.

It would also help old codgers like me that still prefer to type on a full size keyboard (one finger, obviously  ) instead of the phone…

TIA.

You can take pictures before initiating the nomination process. When it comes to pictures, you can choose to use an existing one.

When using an existing one it still opens up the camera app (in gallery mode) which still closes PoGo :frowning: .

Thanks for the quick reply anyway…

It is likely a memory problem (as in, not enough of it).

I have the same issue on my older devices and Ingress.

Not much can be done about it as that is how Android deals with low memory conditions.
