I am chosing to report this as a bug because it is a serious deficiency in the user interface between PoGo and Wayfarer that has been bugging me for a long time. I can feel the hob goblins allready getting ready to jump out of a tree and stab me in the back
I walk to play both pokemon go and Wayfarer. That is ok in fair weather, however as soon as the weather becomes inclement it becomes a problem
My phone stops working in extreme conditions. like +40 to +50 degrees Celsius in places like Iraq and the Sahara desert. Then at the opposite end of the thermometer it also stops working at -20 to -30 degrees in places like Norway or Sakahlin island in the winter time
My phones touch screen also becomes impossible to use when wet from either rain or snow. Then in sunny conditions it is impossible to read the screen even when the screen is turned up to it’s brightest level
In PoGo you can nominate a wayspot through the application. “Settings, uploads, new pokestop”. You have to be close to the artefact you are nominating
My way of working is I make a nomination in PoGo then I go into the Wayfarer app and put the nomination on hold. This way I can write all my eloquent bulls*** in the comfort of a café. Where hopefully it is dry and shady
The deficiency in this system is that when you make the nomination from PoGo in either the sun, rain or snow blizzard; you have to upload a picture of the artefact and another picture of the artefacts surroundings. Then you are literally goosed because after uploading the cover and overview photographs your bed is litterally made. As there is no way to change the images for an alternative photograph. No way to crop or edit the images
Recently i made a nomination where i could not see a thing on the screen when I was taking my photographs. So I uploaded the nomination and then rushed off to find some shade so I could put it on hold
Later that night to my shock and horror I discovered that someone had wandered into frame on the far right of the cover photograph an area that would not be used in the cover photograph. So I decided not to withdraw the nomination. However some of the reviewers on Wayfarer seem to be hob goblins and sticklers for the rules. So a perfectly good nomination got rejected due to “body parts”
Now if I could have cropped the cover photograph prior to releasing the hold it would have saved me a lot of time and trouble
Improvements that could be made:
- Include buttons in the PoGo application for “upload now and place on hold” and “upload later and place on hold”
- After upload to the Wayfarer server the possibility to replace or edit the cover and overview photographs should be provided
P.s. I can only see positive effects of implementing this suggestion. But given time i am sure I could think of ways in which it could or would be abused
Given that you can submit remotely (currently up to 10km, but that might be expanding with the changes to the wayfarer user rating system that we had recently), my argument would be that you could surely find somewhere within a 10km radius of what you’re submitting where you can sit down and be able to clearly see your phone and check your pictures before making the submission?
Thankyou for your help @hankwolfman. I believe the nomination distance limit or physical proximity is capped at submitting nominations for points of interest that are within 10 km of your current physical GPS location. However you cannot nominate locations remotely unless you are actually visiting the area. That aside scrolling through the map in the PoGo application is infeasible to place the pointer in the correct location. Try scrolling through that map sometime to see how difficult it is
Using the wayfarer web submission at Niantic Wayfarer, you can create drafts for any location anywhere in the world. When you are within 10km, you can then submit them.
Thankyou for the link @salixsorbus which is quite helpful. But maybe Niantic should consider supplying the link in the PoGo application “Settings, Uploads, New pokestop”
I also now appreciate why so many people get confused over their nominations. It is because you are not in fact nominating a new pokestop you are nominating a new wayspot. The text should be changed to “New wayspot”
We have been saying this ever since Pokemon Go players became eligible to submit nominations. Maybe they will do something this time, but I am not holding my breath. It feels like there is a disconnect between the PoGo and Wayfarer teams, and the PoGo team wants it to say “New Pokestop”.
The prompts also ask why it would be a good Pokestop, not how does it meet criteria, which also confuses people.
Side note: I wonder how many people ever click the “Nomination Guidelines” button to read about criteria? It seems like many people have never seen this page when I share it.
Thankyou for the information @cyndiepooh. I tried out the link that @salixsorbus posted and I have suddenly realised something, because i followed the link. I have had a number of nominations rejected on dubious grounds all in Fredrikstad. The first time was because it was on private property. It was about 2m away from the hedge of a private property. What the hell i thought worse things happen at sea. So imagine my surprise when a few days later it appeared as a wayspot. Now it has happened again. Once or twice is a coincidence but three times!!
I don’t really care so long as it appears as a way spot
What bothers me is that i put a lot of time and effort into finding new and interesting wayspots, and on top of that there is the time spent researching the subject you are nominating. What bothers me is that my time is being wasted
Is it your submission that has appeared, or a submission of the same thing but by someone else? (different photo, different title, different description).
If the submissions are from other wayfarers, are any of the details the same (same photo, same title, same description)?
It is impossible for me to tell whether it is the same cover photo or not. In my opinion the title and the description are rubbish. It seems to me particularly rude towards the artist not to use the original title and give credit to the artist for their work. Which is conveniently provided on a brass plate on the side of the sculpture
You should be able to compare the main photo of a wayspot with the details of your own submission, which is accessible from Niantic Wayfarer.
It sounds like these are independent submissions which coincidentally were submitted at a similar time to yours.
I experienced this with one submission locally. My first after moving was a GR5 postbox, which was rejected a few months later as duplicate. The wayspot definitely wasn’t there before. I was just unlucky, but obviously my description was better than the one that got accepted.
I haven’t had it three times though.
Glomma I Stein “Skulptur av glomma deltaet i fredrikstad”. Incorrectly located by a couple of meters at 59.210709, 10.940515
My nomination
There is a small subset of players who just want thier name on every waypoint possible. It could be that someone saw your nomination in review, got it denied, then made one themselves so they would get credit. This would also require a voting ring to be active in your area so lots of abuse issues there. In game when you click on the waypoint picture is will show who made it if that person has the settings on. Check your suspicious ones.
Have you heard of the expression “dead man walking” @niktero? It means i think a person incarcerated on death row. I know of three people who have passed away but, who still manage to put their account(s) into PoGo gyms from beyond the grave. Dead people playing PoGo, what next?
So I don’t think you need a voting ring. You just need one person with malicious intent and access to enough accounts to reach an easy consensus
Normally in PoGo you can see who has uploaded the very first cover photograph but if it is a wayspot not used in PoGo I have not been able to find out who uploaded the image
Honestly, that’s how most voting rings work. A ring doesn’t require multiple people, just multiple accounts.
I know. But there may be people reading this thread who do not
I still remember the days when people were writing about coal in this forum and I was clueless about what they were talking about
If they are using a voting ring to deny yours then they are probably approving fake or abusive waypoints as well. If you give us the town name we can take a look and report anything abusive. Or you can do it yourself. Wayfarer responds much quicker to abuse allegations than pogo does and will ban accounts from all games.
No problem @niktero it is Fredrikstad, Norway
I agree with the rejection criteria, someone managed to sneak into the top right hand corner of the cover photograph
I of course re-submitted the nomination without body parts in the cover photograph
At which point it was not a duplicate. Yesterday 12.06 i discovered by accident that it had suddenly appeared as a wayspot. I have just tried to withdraw my new nomination but am unable to withdraw it
The timeline
26.05 submitted the nomination (not a duplicate)
02.06 nomination rejected (body parts)
03.06 nomination re-submitted (not a duplicate)
12.06 accidentally discovered it has become a duplicate
13.06 unable to withdraw the second submission (which seems to be stuck in voting)
