Original photo of this Wayspot:

This Wayspot is a stone tablet introducing the scenic spot, you can clearly identify the location of this monument based on old street view.

However, between 2016 and 2018, this land was fenced off, and the community office produced a signboard with the words:

公告
本區域未開放,未經許可請勿進入及破壞公物,違者報警處理
高雄市鳳山區公所 製

(translation)
“This area is not open. Please do not enter or damage public property without permission. Violators will report to the police.”
by Kaohsiung City Fengshan District Public Office

You can also clearly see it in the latest street view
(not just one no-entry notice board was erected, but three)

Thanks for the appeal, @EONloveu. We took another look at the Wayspot in question and decided that it does not meet our criteria for removal at this time.

It is hard to understand why such clear evidence was rejected.

It took about a year of my reporting with numerous pictures of the security fences that surrounded piles of dirt which used to be a mall. Niantic rejected it at least 4 times.
Another incident is a mural that was removed in 2021 and Niantic refused to put the new photo up despite 3 submissions. Good thing because that one is gone too as of 2024 and a new one is up. Guess what they rejected that photo too.
They continue to use outdated information for their dynamax stops too. That Macys has been gone for almost 10 years lol

fyi, you can report the powerspot - you tap in the lower left corner twice to get to the menu. apologies if you already knew that.

getting the change to sync in is still an issue, though.

Whilst the sign says trespassing is not permitted, I’m assuming workers and other officials are allowed to access the location if they have business to conduct there? If so, that would still be enough for Niantic to keep the wayspot active.

Out of curiosity, why is it closed off?

According to the information found on the Internet:

This is a park is called “鳳翔公園”(Fengxiang Park) and covers an area of about 2.5 hectares. In the early 2000s, due to the garbage protests, the city government had nowhere to dump the garbage. At that time, the city government temporarily placed the garbage at the current location of the park, and the result was a pile of about 5-FLOOR-HIGH garbage mountain.

After that, there was a slight cleanup in the mid-2010s, but the image of a landfill lingered, and the park was underused, gradually becoming a security blind spot.

News about this park (Liberty News, 2009)

Videos about a local councillor questioned the mayor in the parliament about why the park was abandoned (November 2024)

"There are a lot of storm-damaged trees piled up in Fengxiang Park, and 760,000 tons of garbage buried underground. Councillor Lee described the 9,000-square-foot area in the center of Fengshan as a cancer, and suggested that Mayor Chen seek a budget from the central government for remediation.

(By the way, you can see this Wayspot be at the corner of 0:58 in this video)

But the real reason for the park’s closure may be this

“If you are not careful, there is a possibility of explosion and fire… It is revealed that Fengxiang Park has been abandoned for many years and waste has piled up into a mountain. The councillor proposed to start the reconstruction of “high biogas”, but it has become a big risk.”

When the park was planning to start renovation three years ago, it was detected that there was a large amount of methane gas underground due to the previously discarded garbage. If the construction was started rashly, there would be a risk of explosion.

I think safety is the main reason for closing the park.
