“A lot of other stuff you can actually buy from the manufacturer. Like ornaments, painted glass murals, street signs etc. Should we remove these as well?”
Yes. You can’t buy something that’s quite obviously mass-produced, bolt it to the ground and call it art.

Thanks for the appeal, @fringere We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Wayspot.
Thanks for the effort (I know I put some on my end to make the game in the area better). Feels pretty disappointing though, just hearing rejections without any argument. Typical Niantic.
Let me share an explanation. This candidate does not meet one of the eligibility criteria. This is a mass-produced item. Moreover, as pointed by @tehstone the location of this Wayspot does not look safe. Considering all these factors, we decided that this Wayspot is better left retired. Thanks,

If I sent you links to other instances of this exact bike at other locations(in the US) would you agree to take them all down immediately?
How about other items that are mass produced products that have been called art and approved? (case in point, the many, many, MANY Weeping Angel portals across the US and UK)
Welcome @everseeker
Aaron has given clear reasoning for the decision which is multi fold.
Try not to focus on one aspect when this was assessed on an individual basis and an individual decision made on this specific object and exact location.
This was also an appeal for reinstatement.
It is not a ruling to be applied in general.
If you have instances of Wayspots that meet removal criteria then you can make individual cases.

Thanks. You lost me when you said “does not look safe”. Do you live in the area? No. Have you been there? No. “Doesn’t look safe” doesn’t mean anything from someone who has no clue of the facts. That’s why I said - typical Niantic. But don’t get it as an offence, I’d probably react the same way if I was in your shoes. I hope you take the same position every time something doesn’t look safe. Take care and good luck.
Hi! I just want to remember that we are all normal people here and there is no necessity of being unpolite with someone is just doing their job. You just focused on the part of “doesn’t look safe”, ignoring the fact is a mass-produced item. Personally I would reject that too, it doesn’t meet any criteria for me. You can like more or less the answer they gave you but all of us need to remember to talk properly to each other, we all have feelings.

I don’t think I am offending anyone. Just stating how things go usually with Niantic. For me this POI meets all criteria. It’s the only such item in a 2 million city so it’s quite unique. Location is 100% safe as well. Well visible, you can access it from all sides. Niantic are allowing wayspots on train tracks, highways, military zones, also garden gnomes and all bunch of “statues” etc. So I think they deserve the term “typical Niantic”. Anyway, I don’t think this topic is worth discussing anymore. Thank you all for the productive and not so productive comments. Enjoy the game.
you’d be surprised how many folks would be excited for this
