After reading a post on the wayfarer subreddit about this, I checked my email and found that it had happened to me as well.
On April 19th 2023, I submitted a nomination titled “Speak Up Mural”. This nomination was accepted on April 23rd 2023. This morning I got an email titled “Thanks! Niantic Wayspot nomination received for Speak Up Mural!”. When I’ve logged into wayfarer and searched for the nomination, it did indeed show a second copy of the nomination in queue (I’ve put it on hold since), complete with the original submission date. Weirdly, the copy only had the supporting image as an image. There are no other images associated with it.
All 4 submitted on the 13th of June 2025 and got accepted later. It’s scary I thought someone has taken over my account when I received the Confirmation Mails
I’ve literally just received another email, and now have a third copy of the same nomination in my contributions. This new copy has the main photo, but not the supporting photo. What a bizarre issue!
I had four turn up in my nominations- only two emails. One was missing a main photo and used the supporting for the main with plenty of people, so no supporting image.
It’s nice to know I’m not alone. My rogue submission that just appeared was from years ago, with just one image and for a POI that I have since had accepted as a wayspot. However, this submission is a different image so it looks like I submitted it, but it never uploaded so I resubmitted it.
I have 8 “In Queue” spanning 2021-2024. However, none of mine are duplicated. Searched my email for several, no previous entries. Checked Ingress, no approved portals there, nothing in OPR queue.
I’ve had emails for some but if you submitted things via Ingress, you don’t get emails for those, so worth checking your Contributions page even if you haven’t had an email

Ciao scusate il disturbo, oggi 31 dicembre 2025 mi è arrivata una mail da wayferer in cui mi ringrazia per una candidatura di un pokestop appena mandata. Io, anche per il ban che ho ricevuto 2 mesi fa, nn candido un pokestop da oltre 2 mesi. Siccome nn ho candidato nulla nn vorrei ricevere ulteriori sanzioni ne sul wayferer me soprattuto su pokemon go, visto che io nn ho candidato nulla. Sul wayferer la candidatura non c’è perche quel pokestop e stato proposto e poi accettato dalla community oltre 2 mesi fa, nn vorrei essere contestato per un duplicato che assolutamente non ho proposto
This submission never made it into the system first time around. A replacement was accepted, but both photos are different to the one photo in this submission.
Mine would have all been done on “Upload Later” and would have then taken a submission off.
I’ll attach one here. I submitted a lot in this area and WiFi wasn’t great so I believe this one never actually reached the Contributions page before with the Upload Later bug where sometimes they just never appear.

@NianticAaron Mine was an upload that failed in 2023. I took a screenshot at the time and raised it via Ambassador channels as part of a bug report for missing nominations.
