Hey all, I’m a bit of a lurker but decided to start reviewing more waystops recently here in Ireland.
Since I started, I’m noticing a large amount of wall murals showing up in urban housing developments over the past week - they are never apparent in maps (I know they could have been created recently but it’s hard to buy it).
At first I was giving the benefit of the doubt, but just with the last one I tried to put it into an AI Image detector and it came up 92% positive. A couple of questions around this:
Has anyone else seen an influx of these?
Does anyone else use these determinsitic tools to find fakes?
Would it be best to “Report” these submissions or mark under Appropriate > Bad Photo > Low Quality/ Inaccurate photo
Yes, I had that experience once too. I don’t know how it is now, but back then, it was enough to compare two images and spot any misalignments in the overlay. Another piece of evidence may be that the same photograph is used as both the main and additional photo. Perhaps the AI has improved, but I haven’t seen such nominations in my area for a long time, so I can’t comment on the difficulty of detecting AI.
You can often help confirm AI by comparing both the main and supporting photos to each other and satellite and street views. And you are already using an AI detector . These are absolutely on the rise, and should be reported - not simply rejected.
Anyone who submits an AI photo should escalate to the last rung of the Wayfarer Abuse Ladder imo - you can’t “accidentally” submit an AI photo.
As well as fake AI do be wary in residential areas of murals painted on either the end wall of a terrace or an outer brick wall around a house.
These would all still count as single family private residential property (SFPRP) and therefore be rejected. So even a legitimate mural may not be acceptable.
For example
Typical end terrace of homes with a real mural but should be rejected.
If the end of the terrace had been a business eg shop then it would be ok.
Brick walls that form garden boundaries down alleys are also SFPRP and rejectable.
