Appeal removal of wayspot

  • Wayspot Title: 시나미 명주
  • Location (37.743075, 128.893171)
  • City: Gangneung-si
  • Country: South Korea
  • Additional Information

The fact that this location is fake can be proven through two methods: Google Maps and the meaning of the words.

(1) First is Google Street View. The sculpture is visible at Google Maps, and the background matches perfectly. Accordingly, the actual location is near ‘Gangneung Jungang-dong Post Office(강릉중앙동 우체국)’ (37.751555, 128.892290). It is approximately 948m away in a straight line.

(2) The second proof is the meaning of the words shown on the sculpture. ‘Sinami Myeongju(시나미명주)’ means ‘strolling through Myeongju leisurely’ (Sinami is a Gangwon-do dialect word for slowly or leisurely). Thus, this is a Wayspot that belongs in Myeongju-dong(명주동) (current Jungang-dong(중앙동)). However, someone deliberately created it in Noam-dong.

(3) The most definitive evidence is Naver Street View, which is similar to Google Street View. If you are able to check Naver Street View (it may require a South Korean VPN), you can confirm it with 100% certainty via the link below:

  • Wayspot Title: 강릉 포토존 조형물
  • Location (37.742976, 128.893205)
  • City: Gangneung-si
  • Country: South Korea
  • Additional Information

This can also be proven through Google Street View and blog content.

(1) Google Street View: Google Maps

The Wayspot sculpture is visible in Google Street View. Furthermore, you can identify both the Changpo Bridge and the ‘Changpo Bridge(창포다리)’ text sculpture in the background.

(2) At 아둘MOM 칸타빌레의 전북 부안살이 : 네이버 블로그, the sculpture is also visible, and the post explicitly states the location’s address as ‘829-1 Noam-dong, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do.’

Accordingly, the actual location is near ‘Changpo Bridge, Gangneung Danoje(창포다리, 강릉 단오제’ (37.749047, 128.894060). It is approximately 679m away in a straight line.

  • Wayspot Title: 하늘지붕 그네 쉼터
  • Location (37.743022, 128.892875)
  • City: Gangneung-si
  • Country: South Korea
  • Additional Information

This can be proven by the buildings and text sculptures shown in the background of the Wayspot image.

(1) First is the KT West Gangneung Branch.

Google Street View: Google Maps

Although the data is from 2015 and 2018, it can be confirmed that the KT building and the radio tower in the background match the Wayspot image.

(2) Next is the text sculpture shown in the image.

Although the text is partially obscured by the fence and difficult to see clearly, one can infer that it says ‘Jungang-dong **-teo.(중앙동 **터)’ This confirms that the Wayspot should originally be located in Jungang-dong rather than Noam-dong, but I will look further.

Upon further investigation, it can be confirmed that the text sculpture matches the one shown on the official Gangneung City blog (강릉시청 공식 블로그 : 네이버 블로그). It is also possible to verify that the buildings in the photo and the image are similar.

Therefore, the actual location is the ‘Myeongju Park Swing Chair(명주공원 흔들의자)’ (37.752025, 128.890682).

It is approximately 1,019m away in a straight line.

  1. AI detection results confirm that this is an AI-generated image.
  2. There are also many unnatural details in the image that differ from reality.

I ended up writing this because they’ve finally started creating Wayspots with AI-generated images.
I appreciate your hard work.

Actually, shifting those three Waystops to their accurate locations or flagging them as duplicates seems better than deletion. I have provided the actual or approximate coordinates in the ‘Additional Information’ section, so please relocate them accordingly. However, the AI-generated Waystops listed below should simply be removed.

The Wayspots I mentioned above were successfully moved, and the one created with an AI image was also removed. However, another Wayspot with a fake location was created in the meantime, so I’ll have to write a separate post for it.

  • Wayspot Title: 생활 체육 운동기구

“Since it appears that Emily reviews the in-game reports, I am submitting the same details I provided before, but with additional images for clarity.”

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to request the relocation of a wayspot that is currently registered in an incorrect location.

The original and correct location is 169-4, Nammun-dong, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-state (Current administrative district: Jungang-dong).

The exact coordinates are ( 37.750230, 128.888975 ).

  1. As shown in the attached image of the information board, the title “Jungang-dongjang” (Head of Jungang-dong) is clearly visible. This confirms that the facility belongs to Jungang-dong and should not be located in Noam-dong, where it is currently placed.

  1. Despite the Google Street View being from 2018, the houses in the background perfectly match the current view, and the exercise equipment and floor tiles are also identical.

Thank you for your hard work and for your assistance with this matter.

  • Wayspot Title: 어뚱루
  • Location (37.742883,128.892775)
  • City: Gangneung-si
  • Country: South Korea
  • Additional Information

“Since it appears that Emily reviews the in-game reports, I am submitting the same details I provided before, but with additional images for clarity.”

Thank you for your hard work.

I am requesting a location edit for the Wayspot ‘Eopung-ru(어뚱루)’ (37.742883, 128.892775). I have been closely monitoring this area and have noticed that fake Wayspots are being persistently created here. The current location of ‘Eopung-ru’ is inaccurate for the following reasons:

1.Based on Naver Street View, the actual location of the object is within the ‘Myeongju Art Yard’ (명주예술마당).
“A Korean VPN might be necessary to open this link.”

2.According to the blog post ‘Myeongju Art Yard Outdoor Garden Online Docent(명주예술마당 실외정원 온라인 도슨트)’, the specifications of the installation are clearly detailed.

[Link: 민들레 조경 A to Z : 네이버 블로그 ]

The content confirms not only the technical details of the artwork but also specifically identifies it as being located in ‘Zone 2’, which corresponds to the South Gate of Eopung-ru(어풍루 남문).

  1. Deducing the actual location through text visible in the photos.

The visible text in the image includes “연장” (theater/venue), “명주*” (Myeongju****), and “어풍루” (Eopung-ru).**

(1) “Eopung-ru” is verified by the blog post mentioned in point #2.

(2) “명주****” can be clearly identified as “Myeongju Art Yard” (명주예술마당) through the Naver Street View link below:
“A Korean VPN might be necessary to open this link.”
[Link: https://naver.me/x52LlDmt ]

(3) “*연장” can be inferred contextually as “공연장” (Performance Venue/Theater).

Therefore, it is logically concluded that the installation is the ‘Eopung-ru’ structure located within ‘Myeongju Art Yard(명주예술마당)’.

Based on the comprehensive evidence provided above, the actual coordinates are approximately (37.750119, 128.889532). It is only right that the Wayspot be moved to this location where the structure actually exists.

At this point, I cannot help but wonder if there are any sanctions against submitters who maliciously and repeatedly create fake Wayspots in incorrect locations. Without proper disciplinary action, this cycle of fraudulent submissions will likely continue indefinitely.

Furthermore, I would like to inquire if there are any measures being taken against reviewers whose quality of judgment is inferior to your own AI system, ‘Emily’. I recall that in the past, warning emails were sent to reviewers who lacked the necessary qualifications. I hope to see a return to such standards.

Thank you again for your hard work and dedication.

Thanks for the appeal, @ParkUah! We have already taken necessary action on the Wayspots in accordance with our policies.
