Hello Niantic Wayfarer Team,
I am contacting you to appeal the recent removal of the Wayspot named “Fonte da travesía,” located in a small public garden on the street at [42.861696,-8.645553].
This Wayspot has been active and approved since spring 2019. It is a drinking water fountain crafted from granite stone, clearly meeting Niantic’s eligibility criteria. The fountain is publicly accessible and significantly contributes to the local community’s and landscape. Furthermore, it does not meet any criteria for removal.
Attached are updated photographs and relevant details demonstrating that “Fonte da travesía” remains intact, publicly accessible, and valuable for both players and residents. Additionally, I am including a Google Maps link where the fountain can be clearly seen.

Please reconsider this removal, as it negatively impacts the gameplay experience and the significance of our local community.
Thank you very much for reviewing this appeal. I look forward to your response.

Welcome to the forum! I don’t decide your appeal, but I would suggest you add more about the significance of the drinking fountain itself for the team to consider. Although some parts of the world had been accepting these, they are generally considered just infrastructure, and as such do not meet criteria. Is there anything especially notable about this fountain that makes it a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social that isn’t apparent in the photos?

Hello and welcome,
As of late, it does appear that Wayfarer has been removing water fountains that do not meet criteria from areas of Spain. Typically, a water fountain may meet criteria if it has unique art/architecture or is of historical value; basically, the water fountain needs to have something else to it that makes it eligible.
Like Cyndie noted, water fountains are typically just seen as infrastructure, as they are a place set up for one to get a drink of water, and usually are not great places to be social/exercise/explore. None of the info that you have provided proves that this meets at least one of these, or that there’s something else about the water fountain that makes it eligible.

Thank you very much for your feedback!
I understand your point, but I’d like to clarify that “Fonte da travesía” isn’t just standard infrastructure. This fountain provides natural mineral water, which sets it apart from typical municipal utilities. Historically, this spot served as an important social gathering place for local residents, making it significant for social interactions, exploration, and community-building beyond what’s visible in the pictures alone.
I believe this context makes it clearly eligible as per Niantic’s guidelines, and I kindly ask the team to reconsider its removal considering these historical and social aspects.
Thanks again for your consideration!
Providing natural mineral water doesn’t make it eligible. There are many places in the world where the water infrastructure provides natural mineral water to those in the area.
I also have a hard time seeing people socializing at a water fountain; it wouldn’t be my first choice almost anywhere to meet up with someone. It doesn’t inspire exploration of the community either, and I don’t know how community building falls into any Wayspot crtiera.
You really need to provide better visual evidence that this is a historical fountain. If you know of any websites, too, those may help. Otherwise, right now, even with your added context, which is just from you, that may not be enough to restore the Wayspot.

You obviously haven’t worked in an office. The water fountain/kitchen area is where all the good gossip and socializing occurs.
So in summary all those water dispensers with a big blue bottle attached are now eligible /s for those that don’t know the /s thing that means sarcasm which is what this post is…don’t go nominating office water dispensers
I’ve worked in many offices. What does that have to do with a water fountain being eligible? Nothing. And I never talked with co-workers there; typically it was in the break room or outside. Office water dispensers are not always places to gather and talk, and some offices don’t even have them.
Water fountains are found in many places all over the world. They tend to be indistinct, not unique. They provide a service to the community, which is to provide a drink of water when needed. And water dispensers are similar, in that they provide one with a drink of water and are quite indistinct.
“Office” water dispensers are mass-produced, and anyone can purchase them these days. They’re sold online, even at places like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Walmart. People do sometimes purchase them for use in their homes, not just for an office.

Thanks for your comment! I agree that fountains can often serve as great spots for people to meet, socialize, and explore, especially when they are visually unique. Of course, it’s also essential that these locations remain safely accessible to everyone, which is absolutely the case with “Fonte da travesía.”
Tagging @MegaTrainerRed, as they may be better able to explain this situation.

Thanks for the appeal, @trekolas! After reviewing the additional evidence provided, we’ve decided to retire the Wayspot in question.
