This is a question about a nomination that has already been accepted, but someone else submitted an incorrect title edit.
The original title:
Plaque photo to prove it’s part of the official title/description:
Current title:
Someone renamed the wayspot to “Caldecott”, which is the name of the MRT station and not the artwork.
I can’t tell if it’s a well-meaning edit or if it’s abuse as it’s possible that someone just got confused by the MRT name that is also on the plaque, but there’s already a separate wayspot for the MRT station and it seems unlikely that a local player wouldn’t know how MRT names work.
I’m trying to rename it back to avoid it being considered a dupe of the actual MRT wayspot but if emotes aren’t allowed even if official, I’ll withdraw that attempt and submit a different rename request.
Sounds like abuse to me.
@NianticAaron can you take a look and revert the edit?
I’m not 100% sure if it’s abuse as I do understand there’s normally a “no emotes” rule for titles and descriptions, and I just figure the “official titles where possible” rule takes priority in cases like this. I don’t want to get the submitter of the edit in trouble for this as there’s a decent enough possibility that it might have been a well-meaning edit.
But I would appreciate confirmation on whether official names that contain emotes are a valid exception to the usual rule. For future reference, as there are other artworks with weird names in Singapore.
Personally, I would put the artist’s name in the description rather than the title (along with other info that can be dug up, like date, patron, etc).
But, that is mostly because I like things to be consistent. And some titles are long enough, and descriptions weak enough, that putting both the title and creator in the title section, makes for a long one. By separating them, they keep things a bit more balanced. But, that’s just me.
If I came across this wayspot, I would likely make an edit to make that happen.
For this particular piece, I wonder if it makes sense to do something like :)(: (sic)
or [sic]
to reduce the number of parens. I suspect I may have to do similar to a spot near me where the name of the piece is Fertil Land
.
That’s where I’d normally put it, yeah, but I thought it’d be safer to add it to the title in this specific case as otherwise there would be only emotes in there.
