Benches as sensitive locations

Hi team

Been thinking. Yes it hurt. I nominated a bench. Sitting under a tree outside the pub. Very quaint. People from pub sit on it and have a pint. Hikers relax on it.

Unlike those memorial benches with plaques. It just has carved on the back rest. Berts Bench. Quite unique for the area that is for sure.

I thought that was different. But it got rejected for Sensitive Location. And I was like how? There is no in loving memory. No dates. Nothing just the carving “Berts Bench”. People already gather around it. Lounge on it. Drink on it ( II have walked from the pub and sat there with a pint).

They also said it was temp or seasonal. Even though nailed to ground. On stone base. Moss growing under bench. Stone clean where you put your feet. Eyes people. Use your eyes

My question is though. What makes something like this sensitive…?

'Fanks peeps. "fanks

Sometimes people accidentally check the wrong criteria when they review. Don’t put too much stock in any one rejection reason. As for temporary, the choice is temporary or not distinct. People often choose that when the item is common/ordinary/mundane, in other words, not a great place to explore/exercise/socialize.

Without seeing your nomination, it’s hard to say if the nomination could be improved, but please feel to post it for feedback.

Don’t be discouraged. Sometimes what we as individuals think is amazing is viewed differently by others. It’s just different perspectives. If you want to try to resubmit, do ask for advice from the community first. Everyone here also reviews or at least has reviewed, so they can offer good advice on how to improve your nomination and/or when to give up on something and move on.

Hey had it been rejected for boring and mundane would run with that. I mean it is a bench… So no need to ask for help on this baby… No it is the sensitive criteria that intrigues me.

The new reviewing system makes it harder to click the wrong thing unless you going too fast, bored just getting through them as quick as you can for your appeals/PGO plat badge or you have no idea.

That said… I have done it once in 6,200 reviews. So hey sure could happen. But that was the old system not knew one.

No I am interested. What makes a bench in a public place a sensitive space? That is what I am interested in…And that was my question…

You make me think. Perhaps temporary/seasonal should be one excuse and not distinct another. So Niantic have no excuse mixing the two… Really clearly distinguishes the two. Hmmmmmmmm

I’ve done over 20,000 reviews, it happens. You’ll never get an answer because you will never know who selected it and why. Not knowing what was in that persons brain makes it impossible for us to do anything more than wild speculation. Best guess… it was a mistake.

I can actually see sensitive location being confused with adult location, if this is a pub that is age restricted. If not, then a downvote for Permanent/Distinct should be chosen.

Keep in mind that in the last AMA from November/December 2023, Niantic said the best way to ensure you are rejecting a nomination is to downvote on one of the first 4 questions. No other clarification has been given since.

Benches, being there is criteria clarification for them, do tend to get a good number of confusing rejection reasons besides temp/distinct. I’ve seen people reject them as generic businesses, which makes no sense, but is still a rejection for something that doesn’t meet criteria.

Until Niantic further clarifies the best way to downvote and reject a nomination, we will continue to see some confusing rejections. And yes, there are many reviewers that do believe the best way to reject is to downvote Appropriate and choose one of the reasons there, even if it’s at an appropriate location.

Thanks DTrain… Right ho… Hope I don’t forget that

To be fair. The nomination was because I liked the bench with its carved dedication to Bert and it was different. Not that it was great or a slam dunk.

I was just interested as to why it was considered sensitive.

And you know you hear the local community will know. This is a tiny village with no shops etc etc There is no local reviewing community who would know if it had meaning etc etc So anyone mentions that - its a stretch. But to this village this spot - well ask anyone - meet me at Berts Bench. They will know. OK OK. It is outside the only pub so sure we all know where it is

But I am now tempted to nominate the one bench with 4 memorial plaques on it. Cause they seem to pass all the time

Only kidding
